This morning a fleet of 6 (plus 1) GoodGym members spent over an hour clearing the litter from the Canal Basin end of the Slough Canal. Our plus 1 was Helen husband - John. He had such a great time that apparently 'He will be back'.

It was actually Helen that asked if we could schedule in this task. She lives nearby and on one of her walks with her dog she saw how bad the area was.

It didn't take us long to find a cargo of items! Even in the car park we could of spent a few hours collecting rubbish, but we wanted to help clear the canal for the 2 nesting swans so we wave'd goodbye to the car park and heading down stream.

It is absolutely cray-sea what people dump in the canal. Jean found a whole wardrobe of kids clothes (these could have easily of been donated to a charity shop rather than block the passage of the canal!

All in all we found:

  • Tuperwear;

  • Clothes;

  • Golf stick;

  • Bottles;

  • Cans;

  • Plastics - of all sorts;

  • Glass;

  • Toilet;

  • Bags;

  • Crisp packets;

  • Yoghurt pots;

  • Building rubble;

  • Plus plenty of other items

We weren't looking for pacific items, but what we found filled 13 large bin bags!

Great effort by the team! Next Friday we are back out again but this time at the Jubilee River in Cippenham. If you are free, please come and join us.
