Find out about GoodGym TaskForce
Report written by Nick Moore
This evening's mission was the sequel to Katy Hulm's fine efforts of last week (https://www.goodgym.org/reports/bed-building-mix-and-match) in trying to build Mrs I's bed frame without any instructions...
Anne and I surveyed the scene with some trepidation - there clearly were a lot of parts and a box full of various sized bolts, random nuts, fastenings, Allen keys and the world's most useless tiny spanner. Undeterred by the challenge ahead, we got to work to try and knit it all together and after a fair bit of discussion, contorting (of ourselves), joining, and then dismantling of parts that didn't look right we eventually got to what we felt was the finished product - at least it looked like a bed and we didn't seemingly have any left over parts to worry about.
However, and somewhat crucially, the plastic fittings that would enable the metal slats to be attached to the frame were missing apart from (helpfully) one... - Mrs I thought these might have been thrown away at some point in the past - and we explained to her that without these we couldn't complete the task.
We took measurements of the frame and pictures of the parts so that this can be hopefully followed up and moved the now completed bed frame to the side of the room and restored Mrs I's airbed back to its original position so she could at least continue to have a decent night's sleep.
We left a little disappointed we hadn't been able to completely nail this particular mission, but at least we could sleep easy knowing that we'd at least successfully built the frame and that Mrs I was very grateful for our efforts!
