Find out about GoodGym TaskForce
Report written by Ellie (She/her)
A fantastic six GoodGymers joined us for our very first official task to help at Northam Community Centre. We were pleased to welcome Sam and Helen to their first GoodGym task ever. Although Helen had already been able to join us for some compost shifting a few weeks ago when we came together to discuss our launch!
The first challenge was making our way to the centre, even though it was only a short 1 mile from our meeting point, the railway crossing slowed us down with some of us getting stopped not once, but twice! With some of us new to the area, Wilson was entrusted with navigating us and did a fine job with not one wrong turn. Thankfully this meant we arrived in plenty of time and managed to miss the downpour!
Once there we were able to quickly get to work clearing a room that had been used for storage. Many hands made light work (even for those extra heavy chairs and tables!) and we soon had the space cleared. After a quick hoover and polish we were able to see the rooms full potential with plenty of room for lunges. Hopefully this will be great for when the room is advertised for possible occupants to see it’s full potential. The room is due to be rented out with proceeds going back into the centre to support the many community projects. Before we left Danielle, the centre manager, was able to talk us through how the centre is used and tell us about lots of other tasks we could help with in the future. We look forward to going back soon.

Message from Danielle - Centre Manager "Thank you so so much, honestly it has lifted a weight off my shoulders. I just do not get the time to do stuff like that and I really did not want to add more on to our fantastic volunteers. Thank you so so much"

That is heart-warming feedback from the Community Centre Manager. Well done Ellie, Wilson, Helen and everyone who moved it, moved it!
