Did you know that Ealing is known as the 'Queen of Suburbs'? Last night six hot, hard working, do-gooding runners found out why it deserves the crown.

#1 The leafy green spaces

After meeting at a quaint little cobbled streets to warm up and say our hellos, we set off for a fairly meaty run - 2.5 miles each way. But, even at a fair old lick, we managed it easily. This was partly down to the nice chats that took our mind off the distance, but also because we took in some of the lovely parks, commons and green loveliness along the way. And so many park runs to choose from! You lucky Ealingites.

#2 Allotments and community gardens - with real chickens!

Our task was at St Dunstan's allotments. This lovely space has grand ambitions, including creating a picnic area, beautiful growing spaces, and compostable loos. There is a lot of work to do, but the garden is a valuable place for children and local communities to come down and learn how to grow plants and vegetables.

#3 The people leave you (f)ealing good

What a group of hard working runners we had last night. While half got stuck into shifting a whole load of heavy crazy paving stones from one end of the patch to the other, the other half jumped without hesitation into the pens of soil that need to be piled into bags. Suddenly the allotment was a flurry of activity as we all got stuck into our serious upper body work out.

#4 The sun always shines on long runs in Ealing. Fact.

OK, this might be a bit of a stretch, but it's been 100% true in my experience. It was certainly the case last night as we ran back past lovely little stations, leafy gardens and the most pubs ever. We took it at a nice pace and worked up quite a sweat in the last of the summer rays. A huge well done to Tim, Rosie, Michael, Rachel and Sam who absolutely smashed a good run and a huge task with smiles on their faces. What a team!
