Weedin' in the Rain

We're weeding in the rain
Just weeding in the rain
What a glorious feelin'
We're at GoodGym again
We're laughing at clouds
So dark up above
The sun's in our hearts
And we're ready for mud
Let the stormy clouds chase
Everyone from the place
Come on with the rain
We've got smiles on our face(s)
We walk down Warneford Lane
With a happy refrain
Just weedin',
And plantin' in the rain

Today an intrepid group of GoodGymers old and new turned out to work on the garden of the Highfield Unit at the Warneford Hospital. The unit is the young person's mental health unit, and has a large garden surrounding it. GoodGym were called in to try and get the garden spick-and-span as winter approached and to get some bulbs planted for spring colour next year. The most urgent task was to get the bulbs in the ground, since they really need to be planted this month, so we prioritised that, with Ben, Jo, Sarah, and Rob weeding along the fence line near the carpark and getting a whole line of bulbs in the ground there. We hope that'll be a nicer view come the spring for the young people with rooms that look out onto the fence instead of the garden area. The rest of the bulbs were planted up in the neighbouring garden area by Isabella and Jessy. The rest of our hardworking team got to work in the area outside the dining room, weeding the shrubbery patch to de-choke the greenery and lavender. We filled 4 wheelbarrow loads of weeds, and planted a whole bag of bulbs, which felt like great progress, but there's definitely a lot more that we could continue to work on if we can set up some future visits - this is a project we could definitely get our teeth into!

Welcome Alex and Zoe, and well done everyone for holding your nerve and turning out to the task at Warneford Hospital despite the rain and wind.

Thank you to the Highfield Unit for the offer of tea and biscuits - it was much appreciated!
