Find out about GoodGym TaskForce
Report written by Emma Wilkins
Lucy and I set forth for a jaunt along the Taff Trail - our mission was to help Mr R to clear his garden of weeds so that gravel could be laid on top. The ultimate aim was to enable Mr R to spend more time outside in a more welcoming garden.
Following my pinpoint precision directions with a bit of help from Google maps, we arrived. After a quick handshake with Mr R who commented that we were a little out of breath, his son showed us to our task.
We set about our mission with gusto. Those viney weeds wouldn't beat us and those pesky tall ones were on their way out.
We had a brief interlude to speak to Mr R's son, spreading the word of GoodGym and our epic group runs. We also learnt that Mr R's son had run a half marathon in the past!
We continued on with our mission.... Lucy tackled one end of the garden and I set about the other.
With the light dimming, it was time to pack up our tools. We stood back and reviewed our work - we'd already cleared over half of the garden - not bad for a mission designed for four people! Mr R's son inspected our work and said that it would make a real difference. We explained that GoodGym could return to finish the job. We'd get super trainer Ben and super organiser Nina on the case!
Waving goodbye to Mr R and his son, we returned to the Taff Trail to see some of the sights of North Cardiff. Along the way, we saw the water mill wheel and thought that the river was looking particularly lovely in the early evening moonlight.
In no time at all, we'd reached our destination. We both agreed that this had been great training for Sunday's Cardiff 10km!
