Find out about GoodGym TaskForce

After Saturday's deluge and weather warnings for Sunday, Claire, Mat and Pauline feared their early morning mission may be cancelled. But luck was on their side and the 9am task was completed with just a few, brief showers.

Mr T and his wife had beautifully cultivated gardens, with carefully planted borders and hand picked trees to look out on. Sadly, through ill health and limited mobility, neither have been able to maintain these once immaculate spaces. Kind neighbours help where they can, but this was a job for a bit of GG determination and teamwork.

Borders were cleared of weeds, self seeded trees were uprooted and moss, grass and rubble were removed from pathways. A quick brush and litter pick finished the job and another green bin was filled to the brim with compostible material. Mr T was so grateful and hopes that there will be further tasks for us in the future.

Once again, we were reminded how powerful a simple act of kindness can be. Although the gardens and pathways look much neater, safer and cared for, the real impact is the human connections that we make: Having a brief conversation, taking time to listen and presenting some new, hopefully pleasant and friendly, faces makes a huge difference in the lives of our most vulnerable and isolated older people.
