Find out about GoodGym TaskForce
Report written by Elizabeth
This afternoon I met up with Sam for a mission in Islington for Mrs E.
Mrs E has recently had a knee operation. Between a decrease in mobility from the operation and her asthma, she's found it difficult to do some tasks around her home. This has made it less safe for her to live at home. GoodGym were asked if we could help make Mrs E's garden a bit safer for her by clearing some weeds from it.
Both Sam and I arrived at Mrs E's a little early and so spent a few minutes chatting away before introducing ourselves to Mrs E and starting the job.
I like to think of today as being the completion of Sam's GoodGym mission training, as she's probably experienced the full gamut of regular gardening tasks. Since her first mission just a month ago, she's decimated brambles, cleared ivy and discovered unexpected fauna (both real and imaginary) in the wild: Weeding was the last box to tick.
Time moved surprisingly quickly as we worked our way through the weeds. This may have been because of the relatively meatier conversation topics such as organ donation, standard police practices, and dysfunctional families [N.B. I promise that none of these conversational themes were linked 😅] Between this and a googling of what persimmons looked like (don't ask, it turned out that it wasn't relevant anyway), it was time to make our goodbyes to Mrs E and to each other (I had a train tour to catch 🚂).
Lovely seeing you again, Sam! 😄
