Wheelin' through a Wandsworth Wandle-land
6 GoodGymers made their way 5km to help their local community in Wandsworth.
- Saturday, 10th of September 2016
9am on a Saturday morning. It takes an iron will to fall out of toasty beds and out into September drizzle, but that’s exactly what an intrepid group of GoodGymers did today. Some superhumans even ran down to our meeting point on the banks of the Thames in Wandsworth, and were rewarded with a nice cup of tea from the organisers of the Wandle Wheelers bike ride. Already worth it.
Question. How many runners does it take to put up a (self-erecting) gazebo? Answer. Six – ish. Maybe it was the early hour, maybe the caffeine had still to kick in, but it took what seemed like a disproportionate amount of brain power to get the tent up. But we managed it, along with banners and signs. We were entertained with a scary but double-sourced fact from Tom – apparently Britain is about to be invaded by 200 billion daddy-long-legs. You have been warned.
Job done, we took ourselves off for a leisurely run along the river, stopping only for a few tricep dips, push ups, and some toe touches to mix up the workout. As we ran up the steps at Putney Bridge there was the inevitable and surprisingly tuneful Rocky montage, before we arrived back at our starting point, weekend workout done. No mission is complete without a lovely and well-deserved GoodGym breakfast. Well done Maddie, Tom, Jessie, Dave and Cath!

Personally, I felt like all this was just a footnote next to the 1500 year old Syrian tree.
