Find out about GoodGym TaskForce
Report written by Kingston upon Thames runner
Today’s mission was all about refining our jungle hacking skills to the sub-speciality of “bindweed destroyers”. The referrer explained that they had already done a significant amount of cutting back and had called upon Goodgym to help with the final stages of battling against the bindweed. Bindweed beware: when goodgym are around, your chances of survival will plummet.
For the second time in as many weeks, we were very grateful to have the help from the mission referrer, who not only provided tools but also increased the (wo)man power for the mission by helping us throughout. She had managed to source a hedge-trimmer from a kind neighbour and got to work with cutting the hedge back, bindweed included. Samia made a very early start on training for next year’s tug of war by battling against the bindweed and yanking the ivy away. Jane multitasked by bindweed pulling, sweeping and clearing up after Samia and our co-helper, bagging up the remnants of Project Bindweed Destruction.
It really is deceptive, it's far more work than it looks.
The time flew by as we brainstormed ideas for community missions and gratefully took some suggestions for conservation missions from the referrer, and before we knew it an hour and a half of Bikram Bindweed Bashing had passed. Hopefully this will enable Mrs R to enjoy her front garden a bit more. And well done Team Bindweed for another Richmond mission!
