Find out about GoodGym TaskForce
Report written by Gill (She/her)
Two of our GoodGymers turned up to help with the FoodCycle project to provide a hot meal to local residents.
Gill was first on the scene, but having been responsible for the food collection earlier in the afternoon, she came looking really flustered; nervous that they would not be able to make anything tasty with the few ingredients they had collected. Fortunately one of the other members of the FoodCycle team had done a quick search on Google to see if there were any recipes suggestions that might use croissant in a dessert. And so it was that a flustered Gill was soon focussed on making a vat of custard. Chopping up a large bag of croissants, pains aux chocolat, and Danish pastries it wasn't long before she had assembled 5 puddings.
Before long Assine joined the team and put his energy into getting out the tables and laying the places ready for the guests. Both GoodGymers and the rest of the team were rather taken aback by the presence of a surprise visitor. It's not every day you get the Food Safety Inspector visiting. It was a no notice inspection and she looked into all our practices both in the kitchen and front of house. She was very thorough in checking out all that we were doing, but when she left we were thrilled to be told that we had passed with flying colours. We should be getting our 5 star food hygiene certificate soon.
We all breathed a sigh of relief once she had gone, and Assine and the other hosts were soon welcoming the guests and serving them up with a delicious three course meal.
FoodCycle use food that would otherwise go to waste and put on a free social dinner for anyone who wants to come along, whether hungry or lonely, they welcome everyone to come for dinner and meet other people
