Find out about GoodGym TaskForce
Report written by Emma Wilkins
I met Mikey at Mrs K's house - this was the third time I've visited Mrs K so no directions required! When we arrived, Mrs K greeted us with a big smile - she loves seeing GoodGymers. Mrs K explained that she had been in hospital recently and wanted some help with her garden. Having previously tidied the front of her garden, Mrs K led us around to the back of the house to explain our task.
Mrs K showed us two small conifer trees in pots that had clearly seen better days. Despite watering them regularly, the trees had died in the heat of the summer and Mrs K wanted us to cut them out of the pots so that she could put some cuttings in ready for Spring and Summer. Mrs K left us with a wide range of tools to get the job done, including three different types of hand saw!
I snipped off some of the smaller bits and threw them into the green bin. Mikey had his eyes on the saw and with no encouragement needed, begin to saw away at he dead tree - he wouldn't be stumped! Out came tree number 1 - Mrs K was delighted although she was concerned that Mikey might get cold. In order to avoid this, he got back to work and began sawing at tree number 2. Whilst hacking away at tree number 2, we noticed that a (random) potato had appeared in Mrs K's garden and kept our eyes 'peeled' for more!
Very soon, we were done! Dead trees firmly planted in the green bin ready for the garden waste collection, there was a little time for a lovely chat with Mrs K. She told us all about her neighbours, including how her next door neighbour helped her keep her grass under control.
Mrs K said we could pop by any time and has lots of tasks for us to do. Perhaps I'll see her for a fourth mission!
It was time to say our goodbyes. Mikey ran off one way and I headed in the other direction for my marathon training run with other lovely GoodGymers!
