Ok so as happens sometimes, things change. Our task tonight had to change and so we brought forward our Everyday Plastic event to tonight and sadly there was no sh#t to shovel (but there will always be more sh#t guys don't worry).

First up we were delighted to have Marcio join us for his first Group Run - thanks for joining us Marcio!!

The group gathered at Papa's, now with the broken door thankfully repaired, and we were set to head out for a quick 2km loop while AA Yianny headed to pick up black bags for the task. Tilly, Marcio, Michael and Becky grabbed a litter picker each and the group set off.

On our return the task was simple collect as much recyclable plastic as possible and deposit into the green recycling bins - simples. We were supporting the campaign to tackle the effects of the plastic problem that are felt across our society. By the end of the session we had cleared two large bin bags of plastic waste ready for recycling - job done.

After a showery afternoon the weather broke just in time for our evening session helping out Jean and Annick from Brixton Windmill.

First arrival was Shiv who is a brand new GGer (great to have you join us Shiv!) closely followed by Becky who was sneaking in her 2nd session before heading away on hols. Michael was next and so completed the running group and of course being a famous GGer he was ideally placed to talk Shiv through all things GoodGym as we made our way to the Brixton Allotments.

On arrival we met with Annick and Jean who took us through the tasks for the evening and it was a big one with plenty of heavy lifting and shifting various items into the skip. We were also met by Marie-Noelle and Paul our resident walkers and ANOTHER new member of Lambeth community Kymm who also made her way directly to the task - welcome Kymm!

We had a shopping list of tasks including dumping green waste, shovelling and bagging woodchip, barrowing, throwing out heavy boards, pulling up multiple entangled carpets (!) and general tidy up. We also uncovered a toad's nest with 4 lovely specimens a bit surprised when their shelter disappeared but we were very careful to ensure they were all safe and well!

The team worked really hard and stayed a little longer than normal to get to a point we were happy with which shows the spirit of the group so huge thank you to all!

.... It may have also been because the good old British summer was upon us and we had light drizzling and grey skies last night but as I always say Lambeth GoodGymers will not be deterred!

We were delighted to have a new GGer with us last night so a warm welcome to Becky it was lovely to have you join us and on a longer run as well - welcome to the community!

Tilly and Michael also joined AA Yianny at Papa's and we set off on the long incline up Brixton Hill for our first leg of 3.6kms over to Hillside Gardens where we were due to help Tom with a few tasks. GG had been a way for a little while as Tom was focused on getting the Friends of the Park up to speed but now is happy to have us back to get through plenty of work across the summer.

Paul met us directly at the park and our tasks were to chop back the unruly brambles and pull up the wild garlic along the railing, scrape the edge of the pavement, collect litter and shift some coffee grounds from a local cafe onto the compost in the planters so we divided up, grabbed tools and made a start.

Conversation turned to whether you can eat wild garlic (let us know in the comments if you can?!) and it turns out that one person had tried but said it tasted horrendous so maybe we ill just stick to mulching it rather than cooking it.

Due to the length of the run the task was a short 30 mins but we are hoping to set up a few more Saturday Missions so if you are in the area keep your eye out for those and come down to help out.

We left just after the hour and zig-zagged through the local estates to get back to base - turns out it's 3.4km back so shorter by a hair - and were greeted with another fine sprinkling of rain to help us along.
