An amazing turn out of 38 runners helped out Heeley Development Trust by digging, shifting and spreading top quality mulch over the flower beds.
Shout out to Bee for completing her 100th good deed, and to new runners Holly and Alex for coming on their first group runs. Awesome work!
After a quick briefing from Fantastic Frank and Regal Rob, the Goodgymers split into three teams using shovels, barrows, buckets and rakes. With a busy road to cross Frank and Rob kept us safe by being road marshals.
Staying at the park we did a circuit of six exercise made up of Mountain Climbers, Squats, Lunges, Press ups, Planks and Star Jumps, before a quick group photo and the run back to base.

Proving once again that GGSheff ain't no party poo-pers, twenty-five GGSheffers made their way to Heeley City Farm last night to display maximum Goodness. We welcomed Cerowyn (referred to us by our old pal Shona), a new runner and also welcome back many recent joiners so it's good to see we haven't scared anyone off! After a quick debrief, an explanation of the running drills and count off, the team headed out on the 2km trip.
On the way out, we made sure to listen out for the whistle - one toot for fast feet, two toots for super slow running (just like Baywatch!) to practice our form and build core strength. We did squats at red lights and walked across the road in our best Emperor penguin impressions to build up some of our running muscles.
On arrival, Julie from Heeley City Farm met us at the entrance to explain our jobs. The farm had recently had to make a member of the team redundant so we took over some of the jobs that he would normally have done all on his own - bag up leaf mulch read for sale, move some manure and turn over another manure pile. The whole team worked really well together despite a few cramped spaces proving once again how much a group of good people can do in a short space of time. As we were all knee deep in the task it was suddenly time to start packing away and we left the farm neat and tidy, just as we'd found it.
After a few words from Julie, a photo with the big pig and a some hand scrubbing it was time to head back to base. In a change to the normal intense work out provided by Tom, we assembled on the green for a yoga practice showing the whole city our Downward Dog and Warrior poses before a good stretch off and round up of the week.
Thanks to Chris D and James for being solid back markers! See you next week :)

Big @GGSHF welcome to first time runner;
Click John's name to support him and give him cheers!
It was the first run of spring time last night and the extra hour of daylight was very welcomed! We gathered and gave a BIG GGSHF GROUP CHEER to AMAZING ASH who was on his 100th deed! Massive congrats Ash!
At the Showroom we split into 2 groups;
A tough climb to the task meeting point last night, heading further along the National Cycle Network than ever before to meet with SUSTRANS SIMON who had some lovely looking new tools for us to use including;
On arrival, each group got briefed on the evenings tasks, got tooled up and straight to work, sweeping, litter picking, chopping to make the section of the NCN cleaner, greener and wider for all to use, including one of our GG runners who uses the route daily to commute!
After a brief, but energetic session we brought tools back to Simon's van and headed for home with a couple of fitness tasks thrown in on route including;
We were stretching ourselves last night with a 4.4km route each way with the first leg mainly uphill. A great effort by all and despite a few grumbles we we're all alive and well at the end.

Until next time, happy running :)

This week we were back off to help SENSATIONAL SIMON - Sustrans Volunteer Co-ordinator with the upkeep of a section of the National Cycle Network (NCN).
With the walking group setting off at 6:30, the rest of us set off at just after 6:45 in two groups.
On arrival we met with Simon and the walkers. On initial inspections Simon mentioned he thought the section wasn't looking as bad as it had been before, but there was still improvements to be made so we got stuck straight in. The first group of runners to arrive, joined to walkers in grabbing litter pickers and getting straight to work collecting litter from the entrance to the section of the network.
The second group of runners arrived ably guided by Steve and Kim and came straight to Simon's van for a brief of tasks which this time around involved mainly edging and sweeping to widen the path, stopping the greenery encroaching onto the path and making it smaller and more slippery for the users.
Everyone got straight to it with Rob providing some suitable Dad like jokes, that he might need to brush up on, but we'll sweep that under the carpet for now...
It was a beautiful night, with the sky looking particularly dramatic and atmospheric. Once a good 45mins had past, we popped tools back into Simon's vehicle, heard his heartfelt thanks and headed back as a oner downhill back toward base.
On the way home we made use of the street furniture and threw in some stair sets and frog jumps!
Finding a place for shelter we stretched off as the rain came down and hears the latest news past and future.
On arrival at the Showroom Cinema we were greeted by Sheffield Adventure Film Festival's (SHAFF) own Matt Heason who kindly offered us free tickets to see the best of SHAFF 2018 which was screening at 8:30 just after we got back. It's a great festival and one we have a run in the program for, so please do make it along this year if you can. It's at the Showroom Cinema 22nd to 24th March.
Until next time, happy running! :)

This week we had a treat in store in the form of an inside task!
GORGEOUS GARETH and the lovely team at REGATHER had organised an inside painting task to give their box packing room a fresh lick!
We headed off from our base of the Showroom Cinema toward Reagther with a small group walking who left a little earlier lead by SENSATIONAL CHEF and able rambler SUPER SIONED.
Arriving at pretty much bang on the same time and meeting some additional runners at REGATHER we got a brief from G-UNIT from the stepladders to get us underway.
We split into two (or arguably 4) teams to split the group and allow some space to work on the inside of the building. The rest of us headed round the corner to a perfectly structured circle within a circle for some face to face fitness.
We split into two teams with each member of the team sprinting around the outside circle whilst the rest of the team did exercises in the middle, once back into the inside circle they tagged a team member and the inner circle changed to a new exercise. Rinse and repeat until all had a go and we had a victorious team, followed by a head to head Street Fighter inspired team photo to finish before heading back and swapping over with the other runners.
Exercises on the inside of the circle included;
We downed brushes and headed to the front of REGATHER for a group photo thanks to REGATHER'S RACHEL and then headed back toward the Showroom with a few little loops for good measure.
And this weeks Pun Prize goes to...........
CLEVER KIM for the below words;
Roll on Monday! No Pollock-ing about! Manet members of GoodGym (Van) Gogh and Turner old (War-)hol of a room into a work of art for one of our McKee partners. What Dahli-ngs. Definitely Ernst is the beers back at Showroom
