Coventry Report written by Liz Pharoah
What started off as the perfect temperature and day for a run, soon descended into a torrential downpour as 15 GoodGym superstars delivered information regarding the Cyrenians charity to the houses of Coventry. Although the running covered around 3 miles, over 5 miles were travelled including the paths to houses. It was great to see so many with their red GoodGym tops on too.
It was great to see familiar faces as well as meeting for the first time Katherine and Jo. Thank you Jo for back marking the run.
Competition was rife as the teams raced to be the first to deliver their leaflets and be the first back to the mid point on each of the roads bottom left winning the first road, but the whole right side winning the second :)
As the weather had at this point turned from slightly damp to persevering, we entertained ourselves with a fartlek or speed-play sessions to get back to Drapers. Everyone enjoying the recovery as much as the efforts :)
Back at Drapers, in the warm and dry, we stretched and talked about next week's task at Langar Aid.
This was then the night of the first 'GoodGym Coventry' social. Great food was eaten, new friendships forged and warming drinks devoured. Thanks all. Look forward to seeing you next week, Liz x

This was a very enjoyable run in spite of the rain. I was disappointed to miss out on the social afterwards, but with no change of clothes I just had to get home and dry. Hopefully the weather will not be such a dampener for the next social.

Wow, what a first week. You lots are amazing. Forty one runners ran 5 km in total to Coventry Resource Centre for the Blind on the19th March where they weeded, cleaned paths, moved sheds and rafts to clear a fantastic area which will now be used to build a shelter for visiting Guide Dogs.
Having been greeted by Hugh and Jo at the Centre and having learned about how the task would benefit, our busy 41 set off on competing the task. Due to the nature of the task, as well as the participating in the task runners also participated in a mini fitness session. The transformation of the garden was impressive with a shed, desks and at least 15 bags of weeds relocated to a skip. Having been thanked by Jo, we headed off to complete our fitness session.
The fitness session started with finding a buddy and then completing laps of the park mixed with some strengthening exercises. All runners gave it their all on the reps and completed the session with smiles beaming.
Thank you so much for attending and giving it your all, not only on the task but on the fitness session afterwards. It was great to chat to lots of you, hope I can catch up with the rest of you at sessions in the future.

I wasn't sure what to expect after joining GoodGym. I feel pleasantly surprised. I am impressed with the organization..all the email prompts to the run and activity. I took much pleasure in being a part of yesterday's run. I too plan to continue my involvement. Thanks to everyone...leads and participators alike who were friendly and full of energy!!! :)

Great concept and amazingly effective, both socially and physically. Running with a purpose just makes it so much more meaningful (and motivating). I will definitely join in again.

I really enjoyed this run. This was my first official run after about 30 years. Running with a purpose to help and support vulnerable adults really motivate me. I will run again and again. Thanks to Liz, Rob and other colleagues for continuous encouragement in the run.
