Keira earned their community cape by completing their first community mission.
Keira completed a community mission. Instead of watching TV or lying in bed, Keira was out there making their community a better place to be. For making that choice they have earned the community cape.

Sharrow Lantern Carnival is an annual event that brings the community together with a lovely atmosphere. It's been much missed the last 2 years. Locals and people from across Sheffield have spent the last few weeks constructing lanterns big and small, simple and complex, this year with a (loose) theme of superhero animals.
The lanterns were then paraded around local streets in a procession of several hundred people, crowds lining the street and samba bands playing at the front and back. The end was at Cemetery park, where there were fire dancers, a bar and more music.
We as Goodgymmers had a sweet stewarding gig, our main job consisting of "making sure everyone had a good time". We mingled, chatting to people about their creations, whilst gathering donations towards next year's event, all the while keeping eyes out for lost children or first aid emergencies. At the end we helped with tidying up and headed home, an excellent time had by all.

We welcomed 2 new runners along this week. A big GG welcome to:
This week was a new task to help sort clothes at Sanctuary, a charity helping asylum seekers and refugees.
We met Anna who told us about the charity and the task for the eve and we got stuck straight in sorting a load of bags into keep and not keep piles and then categorising even further.
The best find has to go to Rachel and her 'Sequined Fez Helmet'
After the task we took in some of the Sheffield beauty spots with some playground inspired games before heading home to stretch off and take one random mans advice to go for a pint!
Until next week, happy running!

Our clothes bank provides a vital resource for people seeking sanctuary, especially in the winter months. As asylum seekers are not able to work or access public funds, our clothes bank supports people and their families to meet their basic needs.

We welcomed new runner Tom to the GG fold before heading off in the direction of old friends Heeley Peoples Park to meet with Rob the Parky to get our brief for the evening.
This week we were helping to prep the top field for an open air screening of Romeo & Juliet which will be powered by pedal power. Some of us will be up there on the night helping to keep the lights on!
The task was twofold:
1: Edgy characters Caroline and Chris were cutting in the edges to make it look prim, proper and stop the grass encroaching onto the path.
2: The rest of us lined up CSI style with forks in hand to 'fork and wriggle' in order to help air out the grass and soil and prep it for sanding once the rain comes to improve the grounds condition.
Fortunately no body parts were found. We downed tools and said our goodbyes to Rob before heading back to base for stretching off and heading in to The Showroom for food and drink. Lovely stuff.
Until next time, happy running :)
