Junior Parkrun 15 year birthday

Crewe Report written by Mark Peel

Its name is junior parkrun – a free, weekly 2k event for 4-14 year-olds and their families every Sunday morning. That first Sunday morning in April 2010 saw nine children and a group of parents and volunteers quietly walk, jog, run, skip and laugh along a 2k route in London's Bushy Park. 15 years on and there are now 469 Junior Parkruns across The UK, Ireland and Australia. There have been a total of 6,401,778 finishers across 115,666 events where an amazing 156,853 Volunteers have given up their time to help support. Today enjoying the sunshine were Wendy, Maurice and myself where we enjoyed watching 98 local children making their way around the 2km course. We had 31 personal bests but also 9 first timers which is brilliant. Lovely to see all the family and friends supporting each other in the beautiful Queens Park. Luckily, Karen is back next week so quality report writer will return as well as someone who takes better photos than Mark. Karen was too busy today teaching Stanley the Parkrun dog bad habits.

A beautiful sunny day for a run

Crewe Report written by Mark Peel

So it was a little chilly but the sun was out welcoming everyone to Queens Park in Crewe for this mornings Parkrun. I started the day by picking up a fellow marshal who is in her 80s but has recently broken her wrist and couldn’t drive. 360 people turned up and ran, walked, chatted, skipped and managed to get around the 5k course. 62 people managed to get a personal best today. Now this may be because of hard training, enjoying the good weather or Marks dodgy time keeping. There were also 19 first timers which is brilliant and we hope they enjoyed the experience and stay return at this or one of the other amazing parkruns out there.

Unfortunately Mark forgot to take any pictures so he is sharing a picture of his faithful furry friend Luna.

A sunny start to the day

Crewe Report written by Mark Peel

It was chilly but the sun was out for a glorious parkrun morning today. We have an amazing amount of volunteers as some people were saving themselves for the Nantwich 10k run that is taking place on Sunday. I was the Run Director (RD) today with Fin Dobson in as shadow RD as he increasing his confidence of speaking to the runners and learning the duties involved. 278 people took part today plus 34 volunteers, great support was given to the runners and everyone was reminded by me that it’s international happiness day on Thursday the 20th of March so I challenged people to be happy all week. There was a lovely buzz around the park, the fact that spring is trying to arrive meant the flowers are starting to bloom and the tree blossom starting to bloom. The cafe terrace was full with people enjoying a well deserved beverage.
