...on the other side of a thunderstorm.
For the final installation of our gardening at Eden Croft, three runners braved some very unpredictable weather to put the finish touches on Ken's front garden. On our way grey skies and drizzle threatened to put a spanner in the works but by the time we parked up, laid out our tools and put on our gloves, the sun was making its way back out from behind the clouds.
This time we tackled some smaller weeds and a few overgrown bushes to make the garden tidier and more accessible. Less than half an hour in, the skies opened up once more to remind us that we were on the clock if we wanted to avoid a proper drenching so we doubled down on our efforts. Kinga did point out that the rainfall did have the rather useful effect of softening the weeds that we were yanking out which is always a bonus. After almost two hours of hard work (and none of us particularly wanting to leave), we were satisfied that the garden was a lot clear, safer and nicer to look at in general. Working out in the open, we got a few curious looks and questions from friendly passersby but most important of all, Ken was beyond grateful for the help!
Many thanks to the Kenilworth Centre for putting us in touch and to Ken's lovely neighbour for noticing that he was in a bit of trouble.
We have quite a few similar tasks lined up and with summer fast approaching, we can only hope for sunnier and drier days!

This evening was another in a growing list of gardening tasks for Warwick and Leamington Spa. On behalf of the Kenilworth Centre, we headed to Eden Croft to help an older gentleman who was recovering from an operation with his front garden.
He was very excited to see us and began listing a few possible tasks (some of which were outside of our expertise!) We settled on some weeding and general tidying with the promise of a return at a later date to do some of the larger trimming tasks. In an hour and a half we managed to make a decent sized dent in the task, though the garden was quite impressive to begin with. With most of the weeds removed and the pavement largely de-mossed we headed home. Ken was very pleased with the progress and has let us know that he is looking forward to our next visit.
Many thanks to the Kenilworth Centre who put us in touch with Ken and who allowed us to borrow the bulk of our tools for the task!
If you think you would be interested in a task like this, keep an eye out on the website as I bet the feeling we won't be hanging up our hedge shears any time soon!

A lovely, sunny gardening task this Saturday at the Kenilworth Centre! Four runners headed to the outdoor space to complete part 2 of a clearing mission for a future community garden.
The first few minutes were spent admiring the already very well-kept open space, before tools were passed out and areas were claimed. Kinga was the lone ranger who took on the thicket in the far corner, working quietly and speedily and offering everyone sweet treats when she was done. David covered the leaves, weeds and litter in the main space, while Rachel and Alexandra tackled the storage shed.
Although there were no seeds planted as today's pun suggests, there was plenty of plant work as we uprooted weeds and scraped out stubborn moss from between the paving slabs.
After a very fun hour and a half in the sunshine, we finished up covered in dust and with bags and bags of garden waste piled at the door. Kinga and Dave headed off on bikes with Kinga off to pick up a new one! Many thanks to everyone who got involved. Bring on more missions in the sunshine!

Rachel completed a community mission. Instead of watching TV or lying in bed, Rachel was out there making their community a better place to be. For making that choice they have earned the community cape.

A very short delivery in the sunshine for this one!
Think Active has developed a useful leaflet to help elderly and/or shielding residents stay active while at home. As part of the delivery effort we were given 150+ leaflets to deliver around the Kenilworth area on a sunny Wednesday.
Big thanks to Fiona for a very speedy delivery and a big well done to Rachel for completing her first community mission!
