A treemendous effort from all runners today. We had some big ol’ holes to dig for 10 adolescent trees to be transplanted into the estate. Not an easy task since the soil was rubblesome and many of the stakes were too high. The weather was sunny and snowing and hot and cold all at once. But with the help of much elbow grease, pickaxe action, hoedown throwdowns, a master gardener, digging for victory, croissants and teamwork, we did eventually make the tree-dream work. Looking forwards to seeing these new upstanding fellas flower and flourish over the forthcoming seasons!

16 Epic Hackney GoodGymers ran 6k to Abney Park Cemetery to shovel and shift a tonne of wood chip to create 50 metres of pathway.
Great to have a top squad along for this evening’s run!!
We nailed down our Hackney socials for the rest of the year!! 29th October Clair’s bid birthday Halloween dress up social 🎂🎂 ** 12th November Mireille 💯** ** 17th December Christmas celebration 🎅🏽**
Get those dates in the diary!!
3k running up to Abney where we met the other half of the crew wanting to get started!! We then grabbed the tools and headed off into the floodlit park!
After a minor directional hiccup rescued by Vinney Hasslehoff saving the day. We got stuck in and shovelled at a great rate with a speedy barrowing effort up and down to drop the contents perfectly off before the spreaders crafted a smooth and robust pathway!
The pathway we help to reinforce each year in Abney are vital for the park to keep the numbers of visitors high and keep the visitors on the path not stepping on the common graves or trampling the wildlife and flowers on the path fringes.
With 50 metres of path reinforced for the winter we downed tools and zipped back to base with a great group run complete!!
See you next week for a visit to the River!!

Sara Stella earned their community cape by completing their first community mission.
Sara completed a community mission. Instead of watching TV or lying in bed, Sara was out there making their community a better place to be. For making that choice they have earned the community cape.

Hackney Report written by Clair Sim
7 goodgymers met at St Joseph’s hospice to help pack away their jumble sale in what has become a regular Hackney favourite. The sale takes place every quarter and gives this local charity a huge fundraising boost, with the takings often running into the tens of thousands of pounds. After I’d had a quick recce with task owner Emma, we split into 2 teams: upstairs and downstairs. Upstairs consisted mainly of bags of clothes and shoes which had to be brought down to the basement in our big blue trolleys. A bit of gymnastics was required to manoeuvre 3 trolleys and 4 GoodGymers into the lift at once but we soon had it mastered. Kudos to Amy for her bag stuffing skills in the store room, not an inch of space was wasted. Team downstairs cleared the books, bric-a-brac and assorted jumble in double quick time and we had the whole place cleared in under 90 minutes. The team were full of praise for team GoodGym so I’m sure we’ll be back for the next sale.
