Dark skies and an ominous breeze didn't put off five energetic GoodGymers, who got down to work edging a border in the beautiful Old English Gardens in Danson Park. But it wasn't all hard graft, as we had a chance to have a good chat along the way.

What an enjoyable morning at Hall Place. Today was our first Fit n Pick of the year. What is Fit n Pick i hear you say? Well it's a fun bootcamp followed by a litter pick ๐๐ป๐
We started with the compulsory warm before moving into our first game 'Prisoner of War'. After a few star jumps, burpees, oh and not to mention the horrible high knees we were soon glad it was a little chilly out.
It was then onto a few classic cone drills before finishing the session with a music, well it would of been rude not to. I don't think Bexley Goodgymers will wanting to be listening to Roxanne by the Police any time soon ๐คฃ
If this looks like fun to you we have another 'Fit n Pick' at the end of February, why not come along and join in the fun ๐๐ป

One goodgymer joined several volunteers who together dug in a number of donated plants and then spread woodchip in a community garden in front of St Paul's church, a dual Anglican/Catholic church in Thamesmead. Today's session marks a year since it was originally planted in a scrap of grass lawn; now there are two large beds and some wooden benches for all to enjoy. A future project will see the creation of a raised bed in the car park.

This morning we were helping Roots4Life tend to the young fruit trees in their orchard.
Working alongside other volunteers we 1) removed the support straps that had become too tight around the tree trunks, 2) laid cardboard from packing boxes around the bases of the trees to kill weeds that were competing with the tree roots for nutrients, and 3) covered the card with woodchips to keep the it in place and feed the soil.
Tasks completed we chatted in the sunshine over tea and biscuits.
And we even got the first stamps on our Geen Hearts loyalty scheme cards, rewarding people for supporting Roots4Life in its mission. Find out more about their great work at https://roots4life.org/.
