Somehow buttercup season came and went within a week, so the insects have had their nectar and the buttercups were readying to spread their seeds EVERYWHERE. GoodGym to the rescue to start deadheading all the buttercups we could find in two hours, which was just leas than half the buttercups in the Cemetery...
Five bin bags and counting...

In surprise news, it didn't rain on the early May Bank Holiday Monday, so the ground was both rock hard and not actually muddy in Brunswick Cemetery.
Whilst Melanie took on a Find The Penstemmon challenge, and seeing what else was hiding amongst the weeds under the robin's supervision, David, Richard and Janka took to the path edge finding and weeding even more sticky bud from the "dog poo bin bed" which is, itself, blissfully free of dog poo thanks to the dog poo bin in the corner.
A couple of weeks ago when we were there on Easter Monday, it felt like we had some control but nature has done its thing and everything has had a growing spurt of monumental proportions and seven bags of weeds were taken out over the two hours before we headed to Stokes by The Orchard for lovely Bank Holiday lunch and more chatting. I think the Porridge Shop business plan is ready to go , despite the Porridge Project being unable to make their ides a success before Covid times.

Much weeding and watering awaited GoodGym Bristol in Brunswick Cemetery on a very warm evening so everyone was in the walking group.
Sycamores, bindweed and a creeping (not creepy) weed i-should -learn-the-name-of were hoiked out left, right and centre from the beds, paths and anywhere else they were spotted.
The plants that has been, um, planted the day before were also given a healthy dowsing sue to the very warm (hot?) weather so hopefully they can start covering the trellis in lovely greenness.
The time flee by and we were soon saying goodbye to Di and Jo, although only until Monday which is another bank holiday so time for another visit and bank holiday coffee/lunch to keep on chatting.

The forecast was “a bit soggy” - it was a Bank Holiday so it was always going to be a bit soggy - but not enough to put GoodGym Bristol.
The weeds have benefitted from the recent dampness with the warmth and are making by a bid to take over somebody the beds that have been bare over the winter. So we concentrated on one with grass and stickybud instead of the normal bramble and buttercup.
Top work, chatting about natural burials in mycelium coffins and then lunch at a new spot - Stokes by the Orchard which got a huge thumbs up.
Happy Easter Monday!

It’s that time of year again when the bindweed is coming up everywhere - so we targeted a small space to at least make a start.
Hopefully the Bank Holiday Monday will mean a session to pull out LOADS of it!

Much buttercup and bramble was dug/pulled out to give the lovely plants a chance to thrive. It’s making a real difference but we still have about 10 years of Monday mornings before we’re on top of it all!
Two cherry sucker/saplings from Royate Hill Nature Reserve’s Community Mission yesterday are now planted in the Cemetery Gardens, and hopefully will get enough water to survive.
