Hay Hoe - let's rake! It's off to the field we go...

Wednesday 15th September 2021

Written by York runner

5 GG Yorkie's arrived on a suprisingly dry and warm September evening to finish a previous raking mission. Laura and Liz were dropped off first at a compost pile and asked to fork it into a higher pile to encourage grass snakes to visit.

Michal, Zinnie and Amy arrived at the field we had previously raked and were shocked at how different it looked - who knew grass grew? We were missing Ed from the last mission who must have been too scared to return to the site of his previous wasp stings. Luckily, this time we knew not to disturb the wasp nest.

We began raking and chatting away, and shortly after Laura and Liz joined us and in no time we were all finished and mostly just chatting all things GoodGym, running and cake.

Home made delicious cake was dropped off by the task owner's friend and we all enjoyed a good natter in the sunshine.

The plans for the site are to grow an Oak Tree in the middle - so hopefully we'll be invited back to big the dig hole needed!

Rake Barrow and Roll

Wednesday 19th August 2020

Written by Leanne (she/her)

8 soggy GG Yorkies and a Leedsie met with the lovely folk at Chapman's Pond to help rake up grass cuttings and clear litter from around the site.

While some of the team raked cuttings into big rolls, others forked it into wheelbarrows which were quickly whisked away (big shout out to Two-Barrow-Tom!) to make compost heaps around the site.

Mitch and Emily started with litter picking, but soon acquired rakes and wheelbarrows to help out with the compost heaps.

Job done, we assembled for a group photo, taken by one of the Chapman's Pond ladies who knew exactly how to direct Mitch to make the perfect shot

Legs akimbo young man!

We must have done a good job because they're keen to have us back in a couple of weeks time for some more of the same. Keep your eyes peeled for the next task at Chapman's pond ...there was even talk of potential cake!
