More crisp packets prepped for people experiencing homelessness

Saturday 6th March 2021

Written by Gemma

This week I have been continuing to cut, clean and iron together crisp packets, and am now starting to see that I am making a dent in my seemingly never-ending supply of crisp packets. The packets prepared so far are going to be collected and finished off, ready for distribution to those who need them - which will be great!

A couple of other GoodGym runners helped last week - which was amazing - but I still have a few bin bags full of crisp packets waiting to be prepared - so if anyone else would be keen to help out, let me know!

Giving new life to one use plastics and saving lives

Saturday 27th February 2021

Written by Gemma

This weekend, Gemma and Tom worked through more of the crisp packets, cutting, washing and ironing them into stips of 4. This community mission is about giving new life to one use plastics and saving lives. Just magic ๐Ÿ’š. There are others in Leeds involved in the project and we are working with other charities and organisations across Leeds to distribute the items and collect the crisp packets.

If you would like to get involved and help us to recycle crisp packets to make survival items for people experiencing homelessness a year, please get in touch or sign up to our repeat community mission next weekend!

People helping people thatโ€™s what life is all about ๐ŸŒŸ

Two GoodGym- ers have been making the most of the extra time at home by prepping bags of crisp packets for the Homeless Street Angels.

Gemma and Tom have cut, washed and ironed their way through numerous packets of crisps, getting them ready to be converted into blankets/ bags for people experiencing homelessness in Leeds.

We still have a lot of packets to get through - so will be continuing our mission this week. If you would like to get involved and help us out - get in touch with Gemma (gemmabridge@goodgym.org)

Crisp packet blankets - the project continues

Saturday 13th February 2021

Written by Gemma

Did you know that empty crisp packets can be recycled to create life-saving blankets for people experiencing homelessness? I didn't, well not until recently. But now I know that it is possible to give crisp packets a new lease of life - and help people at the same time, I have been spending every spare minute that I have cutting, washing and ironing crisp packets so that I can help at least a few people in Leeds to keep warm and dry this winter.

This week's mission was to prepare another bin bagful of crisp packets - which I did! The packets are now ready to iron together. My goal is to get at least 600 packets prepped by the end of the month. In doing so, I will have enough packets to make at least 4 sleeping bags/ blankets which I will then give to the Homeless Street Angels to distribute.

If you would like to get involved - get in touch with Gemma (gemma.bridge@goodgym.org) who can give you a supply of packets to get started with - or you could start collecting your own crisp packets! Here is a great, easy to follow video that can guide you through the process of making a blanket: www.youtube.com/watch?v=_ZT3hHsppvI

Saving lives one crisp packet at a time

Saturday 6th February 2021

Two GoodGym runners helped to give crisp packets a new lease of life this weekend by getting them ready to be turned into blankets for people experiencing homelessness in Leeds. This is an ongoing project, and so we still have a lot of crisp packets to prepare, but we are happy that we are starting to make a small difference by helping to keep people warm and dry this winter!
