We're just a bunch of hoola-gans but there's nothing we can't handle (bar)!

We were back at Leazes Park to help out at another Let's Ride event with British Cycling. Thankfully, the sun shone down on us today and the GoodGymers and cyclists alike were in high spirits!

Early arrivers, Charlotte, Dan and Rachel, got straight to work erecting the first gazebo, just in time for Katy and Ross to show up to back up Rachel's assertion that it wasn't high enough (sorry, Dan!) Thankfully, they decided against lifting Katy up to fix it, and put the legs down to reach it instead.

We just need a few more inches

Donning our high-vis, we manned the registration desk, with a little break to demonstrate our hoola-hooping skills.

It's all in the hips

Families loved trying out the bikes and whizzing round the track. It was great to see people keen to try it out - including Rachel, who took a whole two hours to finally admit she wanted a go, too!

Hopefully we'll be back again soon to help out the lovely people at British Cycling's Upcoming Events.

A wheelie nice day out for Let's Ride

Sunday 12th August 2018

Written by Anji Andrews (she/her)

The rain stopped play for many this morning but the Let's Ride pop-up bike event went ahead so we were still there to lend a few pairs of hands!

The event in Leazes Park gave families a traffic-free route of around 1KM for all to enjoy, even providing bikes for those to have a go! We had a few jobs to do throughout the day including setting up, packing down, registration and everyone's favourite: riding around to encourage people taking part. There was an amazing very special moment when Peter's grand daughter Kate rode a two-wheeler for the very first time in front of her very proud grand dad!

We will be back to help out at the next event in September so watch this space if you want to get involved with this great community mission!
