Open House, in the middle of our street

Saturday 17th September 2022

Written by Simon Fitzmaurice

On the Saturday afternoon of the long weekend, Area Activator Simon met with Giovanna and the team from Levitt Bernstein Architects on Thane Villas in preparation for the London Open House Festival. Levitt Bernstein are one of London's leading housing architecture firms, and have been gracious in inviting Goodgym Islington to be involved with the show!

The crew have collaborated with community groups from Islington, Harringay and Hackney to discuss future development projects within the boroughs (especially around the Finsbury Park interchange). A huge illustrated map was produced specially for the event, with feedback stickers provided for all to contribute.

At 3pm, Simon, Jo, Anne and Patrick set off on our scheduled 6km run around the Islington borough, linking some of our favourite Goodgym tasks on route. We ran together to Tufnell Park Plant Nursery, and then along Pankhurst Road over to Penn Road Gardens (we have a community mission here on Sunday!). Passing the Caravan Coffee Roasting Shed, we approached Caledonian Park and jogged around the perimeter of the park (via the junior parkrun course and past the new pond building project). Market Road Gardens was our final destination (a beautiful semi-wild permaculture garden off Caledonian Road), before our return trip to The Emirates Stadium and Kinloch Gardens.

Congratulations all, Thank you for a lovely run together!
