Rachel and Natalie joined James for his 3rd good deed of the week (or might we say he joined us as he did arrive a little late in his typical fashion 😉). We joined other volunteers for the Sheaf and Porter River Trust and River Stewardship Company in the park and ride at Abbeydale Road "Big Tesco" before gearing up to dig through some litter.
A few donned waders and life jackets to get down in the water, whilst most of us stuck well away from the water on the bank. The worst litter was at the bottom of a wall, where it clearly gets dropped regularly from above. I've rarely seen quite so much - layers upon layers to excavate. I wish I'd remembered to get a before and after photo!
After 2.5 hours solid picking, we returned with our haul, Natalie and I meeting up with James back at the van as he'd ended up in a different spot.

This morning Rachel and Michelle joined the River Stewardship Company and Sheaf and Porter River Trust to clean up a littered spot on the Porter Brook. Michelle was already on her 2nd good deed of the day, having picked 8 bags of litter already in the morning and planning to go out and pick some more this evening too!
After donning waders/wellies, life jackets and gloves, we made our way over the wall and down the bank in search of grot. Several bags were filled... sadly one of them got washed away down the river! Hopefully it can be retrieved downstream at some point 🙈
With a fantastic turnout, there were many more than really needed. We picked a little around the surrounding paths and car park too. The job was done twice as fast as expected and just in time for lunch. Perfect!
