Finger nippin good

Monday 6th December 2021

Written by Anji Andrews (she/her)

With another storm on the way it felt good to get the third and final leaflet drop (letter)boxed off while it's still dry!

We met at Ilford Road and got straight to work, Charlotte and me and Liz and Aimee pairing up to work up and down the streets and meet in the middle. With 600 leaflets distributed across this triple task, we have got quite skilled on how best to make it work. The only thing we haven't nailed is how to do it without feeling like frostbite will take all your fingers, and again I ended up with very painful hands by the end. Lots of pretty Christmas lights helped the pain!

It's been really satisfying to do this task across three areas and know we have helped St Oswalds to spread the word of their Light up a Life campaign with just a week to go.

Well done to all who got involved!

Lamp-posted

Wednesday 1st December 2021

Written by Anji Andrews (she/her)

Following a task cancellation on Monday, we headed out on a very cold evening midweek group run session to drop leaflets for St Oswald's Light up a Life campaign.

It was a tag-team effort as Paul went ahead of us to collect the leaflets and hand them over for the delivery to begin!

We targeted Jesmond, starting at the metro station and working our way down to Holly Avenue, working quite slowly at first due to the long driveways and sets of flats. Louise also managed to walk into a lamp post - twice - due to being so bundled up under a hood that she couldn't see where she was going.

We picked up speed and broke off into small teams as we reached some houses with shorter driveways, the only thing slowing us down by then being extremely cold, numb hands! 200 leaflets done in 45 minutes and amazingly very few Christmas trees counted.

We have got one last area to target which we are going to do on Monday night, starting at Ilford Road station. Let's see if we can go even faster!

Few hands make light (a life) work

Monday 15th November 2021

"We always underestimate our powers of leafleting!"

I will be honest, I really wasn't sure we would get the task done last night. We had been asked to leaflet for St Oswald's Hospice "Light up a life" campaign, and had 200 leaflets to distribute in the Gosforth area. For just three of us, it felt like a bit of a tall order.

Charlotte completed the first part of this task solo by going to Gosforth to collect the leaflets in the afternoon then handing them over to me as I made my way to the task. Dream work or what?!

Louise. Aimee and I got started as quickly as we could from the meeting point, covering a zig zag of streets near to Gosforth High Street. We had a back up plan to meet again on Thursday if we couldn't get finished in time but within just 40 minutes, all the leaflets were done apart from one very soggy one that I caught on a gate and ended up having to bin!

It was a great task and one we hope to repeat for St Oswald's Hospice very soon.
