(Rubbish) Bags of fun for first jan run of 2020

Tuesday 7th January 2020

Written by Lisa Hamilton

Welcome back you wonderful people, Happy New Year, im looking forward to us making 2020 amazing!

It was lovely to see you all back with lots of energy tonight, meeting at Produce Hall at the usual time of 6.30pm.

Our task was with the market area of Stockport so the destination was our location, which gave us plenty of time to have lots of fitness fun and clean up the streets of Stockport, and of course pose for some photographs along the way.

It was great to have 2 new members tonight, a huge welcome to Anders and Rob, Thank you for joining us, hope you enjoyed your first Stockport Goodgym session.

For tonights task we wanted to have a new year clean up of the market place, once the gloves were out, bin bags were dished out and we set to it, litter picking the whole area, we didnt find anything too exciting this week but as you can see from the photos Simone isn't doing dry January this year!!

Talking about Simone, well done for you runs over Christmas, including a lovely New Years Eve run in Barcelona, very chic. And also well done to the rest of you that got out your running shoes over the festive period, doing park runs, hill runs, long runs and festive fun runs......Tonights run included hills and thrills, we had 2 seperate fitness sessions as well as a a few hill repeats, i thought we may as well start the new year with a challenge eh, it is the roaring 20s now after all.

The session was mega mixed, throwing all sorts of fun into the fitness session, we had star jumps, burpees, squats, mountain climbers, high knees, and low knees???? it was like a selection box, but a new years version. It really was a great start to the NEW YEAR.

Dont forget that this month we will be having a extra weekend session, also some of us are planning on enetering the Nation Trust night run at Lymme Park in a few weeks.

Have a wonderful week people,

Getting fitter while picking up litter!

Tuesday 16th April 2019

Written by Lisa Hamilton

10 runners joined us tonight to run 5km around the Stockport and Edgely area to pick up litter, pass on leaflets to charity shops and get fitter, and the fish hill was involved!

Starting at 6.30pm from Lifeleisure Grandcentral near the train station, we had a gentle warm up and introduction and a little catch up since last week i was on my jollybobs , the session was taken by the lovely Char from Liverpool, this week it was great to be back! It was also great to meet newbie Gemma, you did great, thanks for joining us, we also had Matthew and Pauline join us from Liverpool, thanks for making the effort to come and see us, we will be making a trip to Liverpool soon to see you again!

Massive well done to Martin for his 50th!!! yep 50th good deed, he turned up tonight wearing his lovely new black shirt, well done Martin, well deserved.

Also while I'm on a roll congratulating wonderful people I would also like to say a huge well done to Jennie for completing her first marathon over the weekend, she ran the Manchester marathon and is already planning her next one......

Tonights run was once again lovely and light, theres a lovely feel of spring in the air. For tonights task we were working on some self promotion and posted our own leaflets with information on what it is we do, how we can help and how people can get involved. We also took out our gloves and litter sticks to pick up some litter, and as mentioned we also ran to get fitter, as well as the 5km round run we also did some hill repeats on fish hill, i could see you clear improvements from last time we did this particular hill, so well done.

Can I just say, not to blow my own trumpet, but I was right, I did take some great photos tonight, and I got my head in the selfie too!!! wooo.

Have a wonderful easter break folks, see you next week for some egg hunting and spring jumping! until then, happy running,

Lisa x x

Lucky 7 ran 46 steps to litter heaven

Tuesday 19th March 2019

Written by Lisa Hamilton

This evening 7 runners ran around Stockport collecting lots of litter........ Our task tonight had to be cancelled at the last minute due to weather issues, we were due to gloss paint, and it was due to rain, and so we had a quick plan change, and that was to clean up a few areas of Stockport that had a lot of litter.

Meeting at the usual location, Stockport Lifelesiure at 6.30pm, we set off with a spring in our step, it felt like a lovely spring evening, the sky was lilac, so all was good. Our theme of the evening is all about the exciting launch of Solihull, the 50th, YES 50TH, Goodgym location. Stockport was the 46th location to get its running shoes laced up, last September, so far we have battled through Autumn and winter are looking forward to some spring fair weather running!

As it turns out, the steps near the Station, have 46 steps!! which is our launch number, and so we did our warm up by climbing up and down the stairs. After our warm up, we collected 4 big bags of rubbish (and Sam pointed at a number 6!), from a pretty small area, a area that gets messy a lot, and as ever Im amazed at how much we get done in such a short amount of time. After task 1 we ran to the next task, as this time we collected 46 empty bottles/cans, we actually collected more than 46, but took a photo a 46 to fit the theme. For task 3 we ran to the local park and cleaned up a brambled area, and just as luck would have it there was steep hill for some hill repeats, of which we did 4, and a nice stretch of path to sprint down 6 times........

After that we had a "few" more stairs to get up before setting back to the start location, here was a cool down and a little stretch off.

Next week we are back to school, no detentions for us, we are doing our first spring garden work (at last!) we are our planting bulbs and sorting the local school garden.

Thank you everyone for tonights effort and helping to clean the community, Until next week, happy running,

Lisa

Glam a bam bin bag at Hollywood park area

Tuesday 26th February 2019

Written by Lisa Hamilton

Wow guys, FAB job this evening, that was a whole heap of bags we filled! Massive thanks to Anne, one of our task force for finding a area that really benefited our help this evening.

We set off at the usual time, after a little warm up! from Lifelesiure Grandcentral at 6.30pm. 9 fabulous runners attended this evening and collectively we collected a big heap of rubbish.

The run was only a little one, but the effort was HUGE. 12 bin bags of rubbish were collected, and tonights random items were a bucket and a vintage holdall with snails in for the ride.....

The area we cleaned was just past our start location, it was a lovely green area that looked like no one had appreciated for a while, many work places surround the area so hopefully it will be used more with the sun out this week. It was great to see all the spring bulbs pushing up from the ground, and now instead of having random beer cans and crisp packets around them the flowers can bloom happier and the area can thrive.

We completed the run next to Hollywood park, with its mega stairs I thought it would be rude not to use them to our advantage for fitness purposes, however there was already a super fit crew sweating it out doing weird backward squats down the stairs, it looked painful, and odd......So we went further down and had a little circuit session, all together there were 8 stations, each for a minute, with rest when needed. Everyone worked to max effort, so well done, especially to Callumn who joined us for the first time tonight, it was his 21st birthday and so thought he would celebrate in style with us, what a honor! Thank you. He is also in his 3rd year of a journalist degree and is going to do a article on what we get up to on weekly basis, and how beneficial community fitness is, fame at last Stockport Goodgym crew?? Talking of fame, see the photo added thats been shared on social media by the latest ParkRun group in the area, Fletcher Moss.

Well done to everyone who attended the Fletcher Moss ParkRun on Saturday , I was truly sad to have missed it ( well done Anne on your PB!) however there will be more things in the pipeline for us to join in with.

Have a fabulous week runners, stay Awesome! Happy running,

Lisa x
