With the football traffic playing havoc with arrival times our weekly run got away a little late tonight but fortunately it was only about a kilometer to the task site. Mind you, I reckon we could have run a K in the time it took the lights to change on Vaughan Way!!
The task was at the Zinthaya Trust in Town Hall Square, a small office that provides advice and counselling for victims of abuse. We were met by Jimmy who pointed us in the direction of some paint and brushes and asked us to paint two toilets and a small lobby.
Sometimes there is a distinct advantage in having a low turnout and this was one of them. Any more and we would have been painting each other. I think Jim summed it up when he said "mmm, this is going to be a challenge"
But GoodGym Leicester likes a challenge and the team soon got stuck in. It was Nicola and Kerrie on brushes on the West wall, Jeanette took the short roller and worked on high stuff whilst Jim and Michaela uses a combination of brush and long roller to do the toilet. Once again the team kept things pretty neat and managed to keep the paint on the right surfaces, off each other and off the floor!
I could see that the team really wanted to finish the job so we stretched the time a bit so at least we could deliver two of the three rooms fully painted.
Zinthaya herself popped in to say a quick hello and thanks and Jimmy turned up just as we were leaving, warmly shaking my hand and thanking us for our efforts.
It was then a smart jog through the City Centre up New Walk (memories of Leicester Marathon!) and on to Peace Walk for a brisk hill session... a really good effort by all.
Michaela had the honour of leading the group back to base and proceeded to do so at a very respectable lick.
I was quite surprised to see on my Garmin that the second half of tonights run was actually almost 3 miles, just shows how much ground is covered when you are sprinting up and down hills!
