Lambeth Report written by Yianny (he / him)
Nothing like a JM Barrie quote (slightly altered) to match a GoodGym task, and today we had an awesome time with our friends from Temper over in Caledonian Park.
Alex and his team from digital noticeboard Temper were back for their second year doing some good while getting fit the GoodGym way, in other words doing good in the community. A group of 16 met at the clock tower in the park where AA Yianny and Gail from the Friends of Caledonian Park were waiting to explain what the next two hours had in store.
Thankfully the weather held and we even had a few rays of sunshine at times but we didn't need to worry about getting cold (only muddy) as there was some heavy duty lift 'n' shift to get through. The group was split between a couple of wheelbarrows shoveling and taking wood chip to lay on the pathways and four barrows to move tonne bags of soil across the park to where they will be needed in future.
During the task 3 more willing volunteers also joined the team and the group were able to get through an enormous amount of work - Gail said this was the most impressed she has been in terms of volume of work.
By the end of the task five and a half bags or 5500kgs of soil had been moved as well as all the available wood chip distributed which is absolutely incredible.
On behalf of GoodGym and the Friends of the Park a huge thank you to the Temper team and we hope to have you back next year - have a great team building week everyone!
