We gathered at Glass Mill with the excitement of clearing the basement at Lewisham Unity building, nearly the same level of excitement as when we cleared the basement at Seniors!! After a quick warm up we were on our way to Lewisham Unity, it's a long straight run, there's is an option to go through Ladywell Fields but it adds on a bit of distance.
We made it past all the kebab shops making us feel hungry to find there was a meditation session happening and we wouldn't be clearing the basement...but there were lots of leaves to clear in the garden.
Not to be deterred by the change in task, the team got stuck in and soon there were bags and bags full of leaves! And also sticks neatly piled next to the skip.
Great work everyone, especially with a change of task!

Planting the bulbs at Florence Green had been months in the making! First the council didn't deliver them on time and then we were scuppered by the frozen ground meaning we couldn't get them in the soil even though they'd arrived. We finally had a date in the diary and there hadn't been any frost in sight.
The Glass Mill group made their way up to Florence Green whilst others met us at the task. Paul was in a virtual Cardiff suburb (Lewisham Way) tackling the litter to help achieve a relay that GoodGym Cardiff are doing for the January Challenge.
Once all assembled and the bulbs in hand, we set about planting big bulbs closest to the tree and smaller bulbs towards the outside. We had to be careful not to dig up bulbs that we've previously planted and also deep enough so the squirrels don't try and dig them up for a tasty snack!
It's nearly the end of the January Challenge and we're so close to achieving our goal - fantastic work team!!

Or more like cutting up sleeves as we each cut off our preferred piece of the jumper for cleaning the windows with!
A mighty group of dedicated GoodGymers who weren't phased by the rain made their way to Senior's ready to tackle the sellotape on and around the windows.
It worked out at about a large window each and armed with window cleaning spray, WD40 and clothes, we got stuck in!
There were various techniques happening but we were making progress. Being dark outside the smears started showing and it became a task in itself to try and remove them. There were multiple methods deployed including a fresh spray of window cleaner followed by paper towels and very very very precise cleaning so the smears will definitely be uniform if not removed.
I hope the results are sparkling when the sun comes up this morning!
Great work team!!

Due to frozen ground we'd had a change around of tasks and it was another week of finding those abandoned Christmas Tree's around the borough.
We split into groups and tackled the longer roads around Hilly Fields which my logic thought the far end people might not have wanted to drag them all the way to the drop off point but no success.
Then we headed to Ladywell which is usually prime Christmas tree area but not the usual success their either.
We didn't meet the lofty heights of last weeks 30 trees but we did smarten up the streets of Lewisham by finding one tree!! Well done Paul, you saved the task and made sure we didn't go home empty handed.
Welcome Louise to your first group run, hope you enjoyed the session despite the lack of abandoned Christmas trees!
See you all next week!

It felt like no time since we were last at The Albany! It had only been a couple of weeks but on this visit we had a bigger task to tackle...shifting lots of woodchip that had been kindly donated to The Albany.
We split into groups and rotated through the roles of shoveling, wheelbarrowing and path creating. It was very satisfying to see the pile of woodchip slowly but surely reducing in size but what was even more satisfying was joining up the paths!!
It wasn't long before we'd shovelled as much woodchip as we could and made lots of new paths.
The last time we created a path at The Albany was many moons ago when we all looked quite a bit younger and before some people had even discovered GoodGym! We featured on BBC Breakfast for that path creation! https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=G3fKxb6Mcz0&pp=ygUVR29vZGd5bSBiYmMgYnJlYWtmYXN0
Next week we're off to Lewisham Unity with a stop off at the Catford Christmas Tree
