This evening took us to Hope Housing to help Mark with some tidying! It was really nice to have some lovely new faces join us this evening.
Nicola, Pawel and Catherine came for their first EVER group run and were fantastic! It's a small world as Mark and Catherine are part of the same running club in Poole!
And Nicola and Pawel heard from friends about GoodGym and just had to come down and find more about it...we hope you had a great time running with us and doing some good in the community too....you may even have met some nice people too?? Such a nice and welcoming group of people, very lucky to be able to run with them every week!!
We ran straight to meet Mark after a brief warm up to work on our calf strength and ankle elasticity....as well as some coordination drills with hopping and alternating foot patterns...some of us are more coordinated than others....think we'll have to work on those a little more in our warm ups!
It was nice to run at an easy pace and catch up with everyone, most of it was through a pedestrian area so not much risk of getting run over so it was nice and relaxing...apart from the gradual incline! As we arrive Mark was dressed in smart clothing which threw us off a little, but he soon briefed us on what needed doing. Lots of wood needed shifting into the new office space to make way for more wood. After some good teamwork and chain work we had that pile cleared in no time and were soon onto the next task.
Moving a trailer full of junk to the side, we then had to move some not so fresh looking mattresses to the top of the trailer....it was...a little gross... Behind the trailer of doom were some fence panels that needed tidying away, so we formed an orderly line, used some German efficiency and soon had a system in place. Take 4 boards and move them to the other side of the yard, next to the Yoga studio! Where Mark and Sarah were sorting them into neat piles for easy access at a later date!
After the all the jobs were done, we had enough time on our hands to head back a longer route. The torches came on and soon we looked like a old school disco ball rolling through the back streets to the beach. We headed down our favourite zig zag but not before taking a group photo with the beautiful Bournemouth sunset as our backdrop. At the bottom of the zig zag the group were given two choices for a mini work out. One was to run on the sand down to the water, touch the water and back to the prom 3 times without stopping...the other was to run up the zig zag and then back down again....only Catherine, Nicola, Neil and I chose the zig zag of death! The 8 others braved the quicksand and most managed to get their feet wet too!
On our way back we had enough time for a team photo in front of the lovely wheel....which should be coming down soon....and then pushed the rest of the the climb back to Flirt!
Well done everyone! It was great running with you! Next week we are doing some painting, which should be great fun! Sign up here.

Carole Jarman has done their first good deed with GoodGym.
Carole is a now a fully fledged GoodGym runner. They've just run to do good for the first time. They are out there making amazing things happen and getting fit at the same time.

Carole Jarman completed their first run in a new area.
Curious? Carole has just run their first session in another area. For that explorative spirit Carole is awarded the scout badge. A Scout is trustworthy

Our group run took us to Boscombe this evening to help out at the community garden near St Clement's Church run and organised by Grounded Enterprises. A beautiful vegetable garden that provides food for the local community and learning opportunity to the schools in the area.
It was great to have Carole come along and join us for her first group run and she was brilliant! Give her a big cheer here! See you next week!!
After being away for like ever it was also great to have David come and hang out with us again! We hope you don't leave it as long next time!
We arrived right on time to meet Mike who got us moving some old surf boards out of the way, along with astro turf, doors, pallets, and old tires! Some of the group got stuck rearranging all the junk behind one of the polytunnels, moving surf boards and pots out of the way to make sure it would all fit nicely and safely!!
At the same time the other half of the team were rolling logs out on the alleyway between the garden and the school to make the area look more woodlandy and inviting for the school children that walk through.
At the same time the shack on site was being used for a community support group, so lots of positive things were taking place at the same time. Lots and lots of positive energy flowing in that garden...which is probably why everything tasted so delicious when Mike let the group taste some lemon cucumber, sugar snaps, amaranth shoots, and lots of different edible flowers too! Amazing and all organically grown. Can't wait to have my own garden!!
After getting the job done we had to get back on time to make sure we could get our bags our of Flirt on time...they have started to close at 8pm now...and i've heard rumours they may be closing, so start keeping en eye out for new start locations!
Well done everyone! See you all next week!
