Stockport Report written by Ben Foster
The Manchester Christmas Dinner has been running since 2013 and provides food, support, and company for recent care leavers. Volunteers help by hosting individuals on Christmas day or by helping with the set up beforehand.
On Christmas Eve eve, 2 Goodgymers helped out. Chloe wrapped presents for the guests, while Ben sorted and disposed of any waste and recycling. Tables were set out, food goody bags from Waitrose and John Lewis were prepared, and the hall was prepared ready for the big day, all of which we mucked in with.
There was also a room full of quilts and knitted items from local knitting groups that were a sight to behold. The idea is that those attending the meal leave with a warm hug, a quilt or hot water bottle cover.
Given the number of volunteers, we finished and cleared by 1pm. A productive and heartwarming day!
