Congratulations to everyone who ran the Big Half, we had PB's, first time half marathoners, people that had a great few hours running the streets of London - you all did amazing!! Most importantly it was fantastic to have GG support along the route - thank you!
I treated us to a shorter group run this evening so our tired legs didn't have to run so far (I can't say I've been so kind for the Monday after London marathon...).
It was lovely to see some new faces at tonight's group run - welcome, hope you had a great evening of doing good. But also we got to see some familiar faces return after a couple of years - welcome back!
I don't know if it was the talk of tombs or the post-group run social but there were a lot of red tshirts gathering outside Glass Mill. We did a quick warm up to stretch our legs before heading to St Marys Church.
On arrival Marion gave us a quick run through of tasks that needing tackling this evening, these included:
The tombs were looking a lot cleaner and less taken over by ivy when our time was up. Luckily we still had time for tea and biscuits in the church - thanks so much Marion!
We ended the evening with a lovely social at Levante to celebrate our recent achievements.

Turns out this was my last Lewisham session as I move to Acton in a few weeks! Lovely to meet you all at various group runs since January - hoping to join GoodGym in West London so maybe see you again at some GG events in the future! :-)

The extreme heat scuppered our plans to visit Luxmore Gardens earlier in the month so we were all excited to be heading back there! As we gathered outside Glass Mill there was some deliberating over where we should do our warm up, with the dog pack in our usual spot and a game of cricket happening in the back up spot. We squeezed into the middle of both and went through a warm up routine.
After a couple of weeks of longer runs it was a treat to be heading up the hill on a shorter run meaning we'd have plenty of time to spend at the task.
There was lots of weeding for us to get stuck into and the most popular task, cutting back an overhanging tree.
21 wheelbarrows later (great effort Steve!) and a significantly bigger compost pile (and some replanting of ornamental grass), it was time to say our goodbyes and head back to Glass Mill.
Next week were off to Seniors, it's a bank holiday so travel lightly as Glass Mill won't be open to store bags!

It was an evening of double good deeds, heavy lifting and a longer run and 12 superstars tackled it with ease!
We had a double task planned for yesterday evening, heading out on our group run to the PNK Garden and helping our friends at GG Southwark at Rose Court Care Home.
To get to spend enough time at the tasks we needed to be heading off in good time - thanks for arriving promptly everyone!
The tasks for the evening were to:
Over at the PNK Garden our tasks were to:
All this moving of heavy items meant we got a strength work out in and the garden was looking much tidier when we left.
We were rewarded by a harvest of tomatoes, chard and spring onions from the garden - thanks!
Don't forget its the social on Saturday (2pm Ladywell Fields)!

Time flies when you’re having fun - 1 year of goodness! Thanks for all the support and coming out in rain or shine to do good across the borough.
Tonight was a last minute change of plan, we were switching from St Mary’s Primary School to St Mary’s Church. We got so much done at the school last week that we need to wait for the landscapers to make some more progress before we can visit again. There was plenty for us to get stuck in at St Mary’s Church and they were very welcome of the last minute GG help.
The tasks for the evening were: - clear the leaves - sweep the paths - wheelbarrow the leaves to the compost piles - water all the plants in the therapeutic garden
Everyone got stuck into the tasks and by the end of the hour the paths were looking amazing. The plants looks relieved to have had a big drink especially with the lack of rain we’re having.
Welcome to Nadine who joined us on her first group run, hope to see on at group runs or community missions in the future!
Don’t forget the summer social is on 13th August!

After a week off group running due to the extreme heat, we were ready and raring to go! It was a shorter run this week over to St Mary's Primary School to continue clearing that space which will eventually become a Forest School. We are lucky to have been involved in this task right from the start and it has been amazing to see the progress since our first visit.
Our main task tonight was a fairly simple one: to remove all the rubbish and glass from the site. The school don't want the rubbish surfacing at a later date when there are children using the area. Armed with thick leather gloves, we began clearing years and years of rubbish including a lot of tennis balls and the more creepy, a doll with matted hair and the more strange, a metal pipe covered in plastic bamboo.
The other tasks that needed to be completed this evening included moving the larger branches and pieces of wood into a pile as these will be used for building structures in the Forest School. And also moving the fence panels to the rubbish pile.
With 5min to go our last task for the evening was to move a pile of concrete that had been dug up to the rubbish pile - the group got stuck in and it was done in no time. All that was left was for me to remove the bramble thorns from my leg and it was group photo time and back to Glass Mill.
