21 day light enabled Hackney GoodGymers ran 6k to grab all the litter we could find in Abney Park Cemetery!
A strong group assembled this evening for a wide spread task all over the large Abney Park pathways and vegetation to grab as much litter from the park as possible!
With a full safety briefing complete we split up into mini groups and headed out to explore the park and pick as much stuff that shouldn’t be there as possible!
Plastics, cigarette buts, bottle caps, beer cans and even a frying pan!! Were all collected and removed.
Picks like this help to not only clear the park but also discourage litter dropping as people can see it is taken care of.
A speedier 3k Run back to base with a few of the squad pushing the pace.
Great to have you along and hope to see you next week for our Hollybush visit.
Best
Joel

Fred Higginson has done their first good deed with GoodGym.
Fred is a now a fully fledged GoodGym runner. They've just run to do good for the first time. They are out there making amazing things happen and getting fit at the same time.

9 GoodGym Hackney runners glided a graceful 5k to help Hollybush Community garden shift 25 bags of sand and tidy up the garden store area.
With the first job of the day to get our area number picture taken we nipped over to Hackney Town Hall and with amazing creative direction from GoodGym first timer Fred we managed to orchestrate a perfectly formed 4 on the steps!
We then hit an about turn and zipped South to Hollybush!
Meeting Margaret and Michael we got to work shifting some very heavy waterlogged bags of sand out of the Rocky Garden so that a new flower bed can be laid. Heavy duty wheelbarrowing and lift was in order and 25 bags shifted and removed the Rocky garden was looking great!
So we moved onto the main garden and in particular the store area. With 1000’s of flower pots about we had 2 big areas to clear and order. Maybe getting a little carried away with our ordering strategies we had everything shop shape and ready for spring plants. A bit of tidying in the polly tunnel, clearing in the yard and adding to the compost pile by disposing of a filled broken wheel barrow.
A huge amount done and we were off!
Taking a slightly longer route back to base to round us up to a strong 5k running effort to go with our gardening graft!
Stretched out and ready to go until next week’s triple milestone celebration!!
500 Good Deeds to celebrate next week and Clair and Anne reach the magical 💯 GoodDeeds landmark. We will be heading out post run for some food (cake 🤞🏽🤞🏽). Be great if you can join us even if you are unable to run!
Have a great week
Joel
