Community Cape

Iain Dunn earned their community cape by completing their first community mission.

Iain completed a community mission. Instead of watching TV or lying in bed, Iain was out there making their community a better place to be. For making that choice they have earned the community cape.

(Don't) P-P-Pick up your Penguin Feet

York Report written by Tim Mckenzie

On a brisk January evening, a hardy squadron of Goodgymmers began to descend on the lovely Clarence Gardens.

Our task was to spread out soil over 4 old flower beds that are to be resowed as grass. To our surprise there were 12 tonnes of soil not the 9 planned. So there was no time to waste, early birds and super good deeders Ed and Craig got stuck in shoveling the soil and largely complaining about my perceived lack of action. Much to my pleasure just about everyone else jumped on the complain about Tim bandwagon. Little did they know that i was expertly coordinating the dream team. I was delivering sensational motivation to them all.

Emma got to work raking the soil and flattening it out, whilst a hardcore squad figured out dragging the bags of soil was far more effective!

1, 2, 3, Heave! - Leanne's expert motivation made dragging the bags much easier!

Iain then suggested that stomping would be more efficient than raking to show us when there was enough soil on each patch. After watching some chaotic stomping, Iain taught us the art of Penguin Feet Stomping. Before long we were stomping in coordinated circles allowing us to direct the last few barrows to the right points!

Time got tight towards the end but after a late flurry of action we were able to get a smashing group photo and dash off to our second good deed just half a mile up the road!

Great work gang!

Bags of Fun

York Report written by York runner

GoodGym York had a fun afternoon of extreme weeding at North Street gardens!

Our task was simple: clear the very overgrown, weedy flowerbed. We were joined in this task by new runner, Hester, who got stuck straight in with some digging and forking whilst Maddy busily went around bagging all the weeds.

With half an hour or so of de-weeding done, I felt we needed to up the pace if we were to get the task finished. I implemented the bagging race, where each person had to run a loop of the gardens whilst everyone else raced them to fill a green bag with weeds before they returned. Every single runner won their race but we did get a huge amount of bagging done and everybody got a bit of a workout too!

I bet I can do 2 laps before you fill one bag! - Tim

As well as filling many bags of weeds and leaving the flower bed beautifully clear, we also picked up all the litter from the area and swept up all the leaves too, job done!
