Ground Control to Major Tomatillo

14 happy GoodGym Westminster runners ran 4.5km to do some weeding and watering last night at Oasis Garden Green Gym

For the last few weeks, every time we've been meaning to go to Oasis to water their plants, there has been a massive downpour and alas, our watering skills are no longer needed. Not this time! All 14 of us made it down there after some racing around Hanbury Square - much to the horror of the well-dressed folk attending an event there - to meet the lovely Susannah Trafford who told us all about Green Gym.

Green Gym is quite like Good Gym - only Green! Find out more about how they connect people with green spaces in their community and get them fit here.

After a quick brief we got hard to work - weeding, watering and trying valiantly to replace the correct plant labels with their corresponding plants (not always successfully...). We learnt a host of gardening-related gems such as the way that a courgette grows (it blew my mind) and that there is such a thing as a cucamelon which are pretty much the cutest fruit I've ever seen and a tomatillo, also know as a Mexican husk tomato.

After some learning and some gardening we thanked Susannah and off we went to Russell square for some signature Lucy J planking and more high-fiving sprint-races around the square.

A good deed and some hard work had by all!

How HosPicitable

Meanwhile in Westminster a group of GoodGymers planned to distribute flyers for an upcoming Christmas Fayre for St John Hospice

We were joined by one of our new trainers from Hackney who would be helping us with the session.

After a welcome and quick briefing we took to the streets and swiftly made our way to St Johns Wood where we would begin flyering.

Of course at Westminster things are never that easy.

On route we decided as always that it would be wise to a load of Activation drills to get that body ready for a nice run so off we went. Jumping Jacks, A kicks, B kicks, walking lunges, some skips and of course the most important, lots of smile all the way down to Baker Street. Some sprints down to Lisson grove, some ninja steps, can cans and finally some high knees and heal flicks.

WE WERE READY.

We split up into 3 or 4 groups and made sure all houses and cars were give some of the St Johns Hospice love.

Hopefully people will attend the fayre and help raise valuable money needed for them to continue their work as For the last 30 years, they have been providing high quality hospice care, free of charge, to those living in and around Central and North West London. Their services are underpinned by a respect for human dignity and care for the physical, psychosocial, spiritual and emotional needs of the total person, whatever their age, lifestyle, culture and spiritual belief. Our patients face a range of conditions, including cancer, respiratory disease, heart failure and HIV.

Now after we’d finished we still had to get back to our start point, so we split into 2 groups and headed back at different paces. Little did they know I knew a short cut which made sure both groups arrived near on simultaneously.

Thanks to everyone who attended, hopefully see you all next week.
