First step of many?

Redbridge Report written by Peter Van Tongeren

In the spirit of new years resolutions and such things, the idea came up to do something about the neglected piece of woodland on Buckhurst Way, Woodford. Turns out it might actually even have been an orchard (?), not that any fruit trees were spotted in between the litter & brambles and all sorts of trees... think we might need to brush up on our tree knowledge?

The short notice of the project meant the usual GG Redbridge suspects didn't have much of a chance of joining in, but a couple of Bancroft rugby players stepped in to help out! Nick & Dale used lobbers & sheers to attach the brambles & other undergrowth, while Dan, Bill & myself started filling up bins with the variety of litter dumped all over the place. How does a fine looking double glazing window pane end up in there anyway?? Let alone a huge banner for a car boot sale who knows how long.... (sorry, pic wasn't successful). Bins full (took a while to empty them Dan?), an IKEA bag came to the rescue and was full soon as well.

Before we knew it, it was time to pack up and get ready for the game. Part one done, there is still lots more to do, not in the least learn more about the possible orchard history and learn more about managing woodland... see you at the next round?
