10 do-gooders ran 7.4 miles and took on a task at the Wolves Lane Horticultural Centre.
Nuff love y'all!!
As the hour of 7pm drew closer, 9 goodgymmers arrived at our Tottenham Green Leisure Centre HQ, set and ready to go head lamps and all. We welcomed the lovely Antonia to the group and welcomed back Jenna who had been off crashing weddings near and far, ok she was attending friend’s weddings. Shouts out to the core crew too. Nuff love y'all!! Off we went heading toward the light just as darkness set in. After a mishap last week but the assurance access would be possible, we felt determined to get stuck in to what we had planned to revisit last week.
via a maze of polly tunnels
With hope in our hearts and lamps on heads we arrived at the task location. We could see lights on in one of the poly tunnels as we ran along the parallel road. Thankfully the gates were wide open. One of the sites staff Laurenzo was there to meet and lead us to the task area via a maze of poly tunnels which housed some pretty impressive plants and flowers. One of which was in blossom, filling the air with its pungent aroma.
a verity of creepy crawlies and reptiles
We then had to enter a very narrow opening to get between two poly tunnels. The opening was right beside an old classroom which now houses a verity of creepy crawlies and reptiles. a few people were a little freaked out by this but the creepy crawlies were all tucked away safely. The long narrow area we were working on is overlooked by the Centre’s cafe and is generally very overgrown, however the area we had previously cleared of weeds and brambles had not really had much growth since our last visit so we got stuck into clearing more of the area with sheers, loppers. Wearing some heavy duty gloves that had been provided for. Pulling, yanking and twisting the brambles was our angle while conversing over all kinds of trivia and fun stuff. At that point dashing Dave received a phone call from Sarah who had missed last week due to a well-deserved holiday. She was at the front gate trying to get in. Our 10th do-gooder had arrived. Sarah wasted no time at all, mucking in and unearthing a mahoosive root - just beating Ali's mammoth root yanked up the last time we took on these might brambles. Before long we had unfortunately reached the end of the task. We had made good progress filling several bags of green waste and reaching the half way point of our task. We will return to in the coming weeks to finish, leaving a much better view for the cafe staff and users.
huge snail shells
On our way out we spotted some huge snail shells which were apparently not the African sort but I beg to differ as they were absolutely huge. We grabbed a quick group snap in the adjacent pollytunnel before gorping at the huge plant that filled the space behind us. then heading back to HQ to smash out some standing mountain climbers. We only had time to do a small part of the Tabata that I had planned due to the time but it went down well regardless. Mandatory stretches and high fives then took place before we set off in our separate ways to feed the bellies and get a little downtime.
Until next week folks - stay fit, do good and look out for the light!
Don't forget next week we're running a starter session which will be ideal for those who are just starting out in the world of running.
