Sam Clarry earned their community cape by completing their first community mission.

Sam completed a community mission. Instead of watching TV or lying in bed, Sam was out there making their community a better place to be. For making that choice they have earned the community cape.

Branching out and having (compost) heaps of fun!

Lewisham Report written by Greenwich runner

Under ominous grey skies, three keen GoodGym-ers brightened up their days by helping out at Crofton Park Railway Garden, a lovely little oasis located in former abandoned wasteland next to Crofton Park train station.

Jenny was the first to arrive, followed by first timer Sam (welcome to GoodGym Sam!) and later on Vic. We were met by Lucy and several other volunteers from the Friends of Crofton Park Railway Garden, who briefed us and provided us with all the tools we needed. Our main job for today was to clear out the area along the back fence to prepare for the creation of a new compost heap, which will be a great addition to the garden.

We first moved several bags of waste out of the way, then set about clearing the area of branches and leaves, and cutting one of the bushes right back so that it could be dug up and relocated to another part of the park.

Unfortunately the rain decided to make appearance about an hour into the task, and alas the more shrubbery we removed the less shelter we had! But a little bit of precipitation didn't dampen our spirits, and by the end of the session we had managed to get the area looking ship shape and ready to begin the construction of the new composter.

Well done everyone - great work today!
