As the summer evenings draw to a close, 12 runners got their sprint on, ran 4km, did some gardening and ate a BBQ!
It's always fun when you manage to fit a lot into an evening. But we got a lot a lot into this GoodGym.
We welcomed Anna who will be leading the Hammersmith & Fulham GoodGym starting next week. She took us through a warm up on the run making sure we skipped as high as possible, stretched out those calves and made sure our glutes were engaged!
Soon everyone was ready for a time trial around Peckham Rye: a timed 720m sprint set against yourself. A mega effort from all especially the first timers who had never witnessed anything GoodGym and got so involved.
Next up, time to deal with the never ending hill.
The lovely lot at Grove Park Allotments were hosting us this eve with a lot of watering, pruning, potato digging and weeding to get through. We were, however, to be spoilt and fuelled by a brill BBQ (home made tomato chutney was a particular highlight) that Lizzie at the allotment had put on as a thank you to us.
Knowing there was food to be had, we got through all the jobs with much speed.
Outnumbered by veggies
We got to work with our penultimate task of eating. Which meant a brief silence enjoying the peaceful setting of a London garden.
Obviously, there was a run home to be done despite the eating. So, once rubbish had been collected, some home brewed quince & pear vodka sampled, we were off on a slow jog home.
A minimum of two stitches and we made it back. Full and a full evening, we stretched off and said our goodbyes. Good eating and good goodgymming.

9 runners met on a sunny night to run 4km whilst wheeling trees around Peckham.
With the sun shining, transport only slightly delayed and some willing hands, legs and backs, we ran a short distance to Peckham Multiplex to meet Asha, Creative Director for the inaugral Peckham Festival celebrating all things and people cultural in Peckham and around.
She had a load of trees in metal wheeled bins to be pushed about 1km from the Cinema to Copeland Park where the festival is taking place.
We split into teams of 3 with Asha as our front woman leading the way and making sure cars had spotted us and that we were still going to get under the bridges and powerlines with the super big trees.

It took some serious muscle pushing the bins particularly on some road that could do with attention. It was a task that took brains as well as brawn with some tight spaces to squeeze through.
Celebs for a night
I'm not sure the people of Peckham have witnessed wheelie trees before so we were snapped and have no doubt been posted to social media sites.
We did the effort twice, moving all the trees that weren't being used as bicycle racks. 6 trees in place two weeks before the festival is pretty good going and the festival team were pretty pleased with our efforts and very grateful for the help. We beat their pb!
Special thanks to Asha who was wearing jeans and carrying a handbag but still jogged with us on our way back for round two.
Not content with moving the earth, we went for a quick session on the Rye involving pairs, running round a Willow Tree and various core exercises to help speed.
We finished up sweaty and pleased with a bit of a different task complete and an all over workout.

Sarah Savage has done their first good deed with GoodGym.
Sarah is a now a fully fledged GoodGym runner. They've just run to do good for the first time. They are out there making amazing things happen and getting fit at the same time.

In the absence of both Jo and a task we made do and ran to Peckham Rye for running, circuits and a game of tag.
With our task having been cancelled at the last minute we may not have had any good to do last night but we did talk about all the ways to get involved in GoodGym like coach runs, upcoming missions, races and monthly drinks.
Fully informed we set off on a 1K jog across Peckham Rye to do a speed/sprint session. I found out in the introduction that it doesn't matter how you describe it, people will not think it sounds like something they want to do. The session in question was some 100m repeats which are designed to improve running technique and efficiency at pace. The aim was to run 100m at 75% of maximum effort, turn and jog back slowly three times. After that there were three reps at 90% effort with a walk back between each one followed by three more reps at 75%. As I watched them walk back it became clear that this session also gives you a great chance to show off your best Reservoir Dogs impression.
With most of the running out of the way we moved onto the circuit section: triceps dips, lunges and our favourite move from Jo's circuits last week the 'stop, don't shoot' (not it's official name). The group was undecided about whether Lianne's double jump made it any easier but it was entertaining to watch them debate it out! Then came a 3x100m relay in which Team Love Hearts beat Team Parma Violets. Closely followed by the fun section, a game of duck, duck, goose. Having watched an explanatory video earlier in the day I was fully prepared to give a lengthy explanation of how it works but thankfully, with it still being fresh in the memory for some, that wasn't required. After a few minutes we realised that standing up quickly is harder than you think but there's still something fun about a game of tag with your mates in the park, no matter how old you are. Our timing on the way back to Old Spike was impeccable, we managed to get in for a stretch and slice of banana bread just before the heavens opened.
