Sadly our post-Goose Fair litterpick at Forest Rec didn't live up to the excellent rubbish standards of last time we cleared up after a major event there – Nigel's inflatable alien really will take some beating, it seems!
That's not to say we got a bad haul though! Despite someone (the council maybe?) managing to give the place a good cleaning between Rachel and Peter's pre-task reccies and our arrival, we still managed to fill a good few bags of rubbish.
Hannah's crank took the prize for most unusual bit of litter, while Elspeth and Leah managed to find half a loaf of very stale, very mouldy bread, followed by its bag a few metres further down the fence.
Shoutout to Scott for coming to his very first task with us – hope to see you again soon!
Someone please remind me to charge the headtorches, looks like we'll be needing them for outdoor stuff from now on!

Scott Greenlees earned their community cape by completing their first community mission.
Scott completed a community mission. Instead of watching TV or lying in bed, Scott was out there making their community a better place to be. For making that choice they have earned the community cape.

Despite a very damp start to the day 8 intrepid GoodGymers were keen to get out in the fresh air and get back to doing some good!
To kick start their Saturday, 5 of our group decided to top and tail the mission with a 4 mile run and they all arrived warmed up and raring to go!
Today's community mission was at Derby YMCA where we were helping to tidy up and paint an outdoor community garden space.
We quickly set to work litter picking, turning over the soil and learning a new technique in fence painting with dustpan brushes, which proved to be more effective than expected!
We were joined by two of the YMCA residents who were a fantastic addition to the team and definitely helped to keep us all motivated. It was great to learn about all the residents who are helped by YMCA and the great work that they do across Derby.
After a whirlwind couple of hours we managed to dodge the rain, dig over the soil, re-painted the raised beds, planted flowers, spread out the bark and cleared the garden of rubbish!
A huge thanks to YMCA for inviting us to help out and thank you to Rachel for connecting us with them. We all agreed it was great to be back together again and we can't wait to get back out running very soon!!

We met again on Tuesday night for a socially-distanced social run around Markeaton Park.
Two laps meant we travelled 5k whilst seeing lots of activity in the park from people on the tennis courts to a fair being set up. Some of the members were now confident in the route around Markeaton Park and could take in the scenery knowing what was coming next...starting at the tennis courts does mean we start with the one hill within the park but it means it's over with pretty quickly, well, until the second lap.
Thank you to everyone who joined in this evening and for representing GoodGym in your tshirts!
See you next Tuesday!
