Leafletting for Roundabout

Sheffield Report written by Tom Mutton

We had a new runner join our flock tonight. A big GGSHF welcome to Filmon

Filmon and I put in the long miles tonight, racking up over 8km!

Tonight we headed to the bottom of the winter gardens to meet with Denise from the youth homeless charity Roundabout.

We met with Michelle and Taz who both rode to the meet spot and Annie who walked as she lives just round the corner. How multi modal of us!

We got loaded up with leaflets all about the latest events and fund raisers the charity has planned to support its important work.

Next we divided and conquered, working on different streets and then meeting up where the streets joined once more.

Michelle even brought a wooden spoon especially for the task!

After doing what we could in the time we had, we headed our separate ways until the next one!

Clothes sorting and pizza eating

Sheffield Report written by Tom Mutton

This has got to be the first, but hopefully not the last GG task where we have had pizza cooked for us on arrival!

The legend that is Jess Dawson, mastermind behind Common Thread despite having very little sleep after a missed flight connection was still flying in top form giving us the low down on clothes sorting in preparation for the next Common Thread event.

Common Thread clothes exchanges happen regularly and encourage people to avoid the fast fashion and instead swap their clothes with others to better serve each others wardrobes and wares. A fantastic idea, which should be done in more places.

There was plenty to sort, from shoes, to accessories and clothes for all occasions, shapes, sizes and colors!

We got through a lot of bags in our time at Union St which is the venue that hosts Common Thread.

We'll be back again for more next month.

Until next time, happy running! :)

No time to lean, itโ€™s time to clean

Sheffield Report written by Sheffield runner

We met a couple of wonderful Sustrans volunteers who work tirelessly to keep the national network accessible and pleasant for walking, wheeling and cycling. They brought us the tools and the plan.

We were working on a particularly grotty underpass which is part of the 627 route. It is a short section that goes under the Parkway and links Broad Street near Park Square to Victoria Quays. It was such a mess.

Quite a few walkers, runners and cyclists were using it despite the litter and vegetation lining the route. And evidently people use the area for parking in the day.

We got to work sweeping, litter picking and cutting back some vegetation to make it clear. Very satisfying! We could really see the difference.

A journalist from ITV met us to cover the story for the telly. See the story on ITV on 26th February at 6pm. or catch it on ITV catchup for 24 hours after that.

Back to the Showroom for drinks and snacks.

Thanks everyone for coming and for Sustrans who made this happen and joined us on a relatively chilly Monday night.

Picking it up, whilst it's pissing down in Pitsmoor

Sheffield Report written by Tom Mutton

Well, we did get all excited about the prospect of ITV coming along to film us doing some good in Pitsmoor but alas the TV game is an unpredictable one... Hopefully next week!

Still we had a good turn out and met up with other keen pickers in Pitsmoor with the superstar that is Karen who does a fantastic job of cleaning up litter in the area and encouraging others to do the same and join here.

It was great to see some runners we've not seen for a little while.

Celine was back out, although a little under the weather, but on the mend. She got her docs checked so will be back out on Missions before too long again also!

It was not the best of weather as the title suggests, but we didn't let that dampen our spirits and got straight into clearing up ROCK STREET with other volunteer pickers.

Until next time, happy running :)

Sign writing, bag sorting & mannequin dressing

Sheffield Report written by Tom Mutton

It was fantastic to welcome two new goodgym runners tonight, a big welcome to:

Amy Lucy

Please do give them a follow and a cheer!

This week saw us head up to Union Street Cafe to help out the fantastic organisation that is Common Thread who do fantastic work saving clothes from landfill and encouraging sustainable fashion through clothes swaps and exchanges.

We got stuck straight in as soon as we arrived after a brief brief from Jess the boss.

The tasks tonight were to dress the mannequins with Fran and take photos to help market the clothes exchange, or help sort bags or to make signs ready for the next upcoming clothes exchange.

Everyone got stuck straight in and the results speak for themselves in the photos!

Until next week, happy running! :)
