Find out about GoodGym TaskForce
Report written by Elizabeth
In the first of GoodGym Camden's 5 community mission bonanza today, 7 GoodGymmers met to help set up for the Somers Town Community festival. This included two brand new GoodGymmers, Aoife and Sean: Aoife had found out about us after volunteering at Story garden last Wednesday, when over 30 GoodGymmers ran to help out after Aoife's shift. Amazing work! 😄
After introducing ourselves to our contact, Jackie, we hung around for a few minutes before being siphoned off onto different tasks (or rather, volunteering ourselves to different tasks). Four of us were focused on moving (& setting up) some chairs in front of a stage. There was a little bit of concern about the effect such a seating area would have on some nearby parked cars, whose owners appear to have not noticed a 3 week notice to move their vehicle before the festival. This concern was short-lived.
Rejoining Abi and Fay at the table store, the chairtastic 4 switched majors to move all of the tables out of their storage. This was done at breakneck speed at the behest of a gentleman owning keys to the store: He had decided that he didn't like the tables being taken out of storage so early in the morning (10:15), and had consequently taken a unique position of insisting that they be removed from the storage as soon as possible 🤷 The vagaries of man are infinite. We happily obliged.
Tables removed, some of us carted them around the site on an independently minded trolly, while others knocked up a few gazebos. Sally appeared sometime mid-gazebo set-up and offered us lime and soda to quench our thirst.
Last of all came our final set-up task: making our own GoodGym stall look beautiful. Thanks to Toyin, Sally and Fay for your eyes on this 🤜 We were finally ready to start! 😄
