Find out about GoodGym TaskForce

Share the love

After last week’s fantastic launch and T for tremendous task, delving back into the community once more seemed like a faint glimmer flickering flawlessly in the ever so distant future. Thankfully we managed to reach that midweek mound named Wednesday speedily.

"immense kudos"

Do-gooders began to emerge from within the Tottenham Green Leisure Centre grounds and with the news that one of our do-gooders is fast approaching her 50th task, immense kudos and a famed black GoodGym jersey: we leapt into action and began to run toward the light.

I'll just take this minute moment to hold proceedings and congratulate Sarah on her imminent 50th task and all that comes with it. Well done! Here's to another 50 (in Haringey) ;-)

Ok, on we go…

"She then took my hand and started leading me"

This week’s light was an adorable blind lady called Ann who had some lavender that needed digging up and re-potting as she wished to donate it to the lovely folk at the Wolves Lane Horticultural Centre, just around the corner, but that wasn't all. On arrival at Bracknell Close Estate, Ann soon took charge and pretty impressively proceeded to lead me in a brisk run around the area adjacent to her flat, pointing out front gardens/alcoves that needed rubbish cleared and de-weeding. She then took my hand and started leading me on another run and very accurately pointed out the bushes, which needed pruning along one of the walkways leading into the close. At this point we realized that we may have found another GoodGym runner. Watch this space.

After a slight kerfuffle with some giant pruners we got to work and boy did we get stuck in. The lovely Sarah and Ali started making progress pruning the bushes while wishing they were a little bit taller much like Skee Lo in his famous track "I Wish". That aside the rest of the team got on with clearing and de-weeding. Before long dashing Dave approached me asking about a set of clothes he had found lurking in some bushes. I told him he looked fine and didn't need a change of clothes and to please keep calm and carry on. Meanwhile everybody else continued to take on the alcoves and their tangled trash and weeds.

"incredibly bubbly "

Before long we had cleared two of the alcoves, de-weeded an entire flowerbed, cut back some pretty tall bushes and managed to fill four huge hippo bags provided by Veolia the garden waste specialists. Unfortunately, we had run out of time and had to pack things away then say goodbye to the incredibly bubbly Ann - It was all over too soon.

"dashing Dave and his side kick David the do-err"

We then set off for Lordship Rec where I set a quick sprint challenge between the two Dave's (dashing Dave and his side kick David the do-err), swiftly followed by our little circuit which saw everybody break a sweat while smashing out a whole heap of burpees and mountain climbers. However, my lively lot still seemed to have some energy left in their reserves so I decided to really pick up the pace en route back to base at the Tottenham Green Leisure Centre.

"motley crew of mutts"

At last, we had arrived back in one-piece panting like a motley crew of mutts but we felt great. Our second run and task slipped tightly under our belts we began our stretch/warm down session and conversed about the joys of stretching and what kind of Kale we grew in our back gardens, before departing with thoughts of Baby kale and all manner of super foods.

Until next week do-gooders. Stay fit, do good and look out for the light.
