Find out about GoodGym TaskForce

Share the love

12 delightful do-gooders ran 4.5k and got stuck into shifting a heap of compost along with a tad of weeding

get involved in GoodGym (Missions, Coaching and Tasks)

I was very pleased to welcome some new goodgymmers this week. Shouts out to Kris, Ayse, Chris C, David P, and Gus - RESPECT! Out to our core crew too – much love and thanks for the birthday OJ! After briefing, during which one of our task force, the lovely Sarah: delivered a smooth speech on the three ways you can get involved in GoodGym (Missions, Coaching and Tasks), we set off for the task at hand and in search of this week’s light.

overly keen goodgymmers

On arrival we were met by a rather overdressed Sandra who later explained she was feeling a little under the weather so decided to wear a huge parka: fur hood and all. Sandra still managed to shine brightly while doing a great job in explaining what needed doing and had actually already made a start by filling a few wheelbarrows with fresher than fresh compost, which of course smelled wonderful. After assigning four overly keen goodgymmers to get-a-shifting the compost (steam billowing) we were whisked over to the L.U.O.S logo raised flowerbed.

hopping, jumping and yelping between tugs

Another handful of do-gooders wasted no time at all in tugging the weeds that needed to be removed before a new batch of woodchip could be spread between the logo’s sunrays. Before long I began to hear a rather cute yelping coming from the logo flowerbed area so off I went to investigate, I found a usually tough as nails Ayse hopping, jumping and yelping between tugs. Ayse made the right decision to move to another patch, as there were a colony of red ants nipping away at anyone who dared disturb them. All in a day’s work eh Ayse.

great team effort

Before long the devoted compost carriers had managed to fill two compost pick-up points, within the allotments, along with filling a number of raised flowerbeds. This was a great team effort and all done in a choo choo train like fashion which reminded me of Thomas the Tank Engine. I couldn’t help but notice everybody seemed to be in 5th gear throughout. Jason, Paul, Gus and Chris really took Good Gym’s running to do good tagline literally – running with wheelbarrow after wheelbarrow full to the brim of compost.

shining even brighter than when we arrived

It was about that time again and we had come to the end of the task. We hurriedly gather ourselves and the tools we had been using and made for the gate but not before noticing that Sandra, who was also getting stuck in with us, had lost the parka and seemed to be shining even brighter than when we arrived. Sandra went on to thank us for the hard work and off we went.

wheelbarrow squats

We didn’t get far before we stopped off along the canal to bang out some circuits. Focusing on the hip and glutes muscles was my intention for this week but seeing as we had been using wheelbarrows during the task I thought some wheelbarrow squats would be rather fitting. The group lapped these up and smashed out some hip thrusts along with pistol squats and some of those beloved burpees.

As Lethal Bizzle would say “leave it yeah”

A quick breather and we were off heading back to the GG Haringey HQ for a warm down/stretch where Dashing Dave showed us how much he loved hugging legs. This reminded me of a kid hitching a lift on one of their parents legs, which I think we all loved. Then came a few comments by myself and David P on ants in ya pants and on that note, as Lethal Bizzle would say - “leave it yeah”.

Until next week do-gooders - stay fit, do good and look out for the light
