Report written by Tom Mutton
On a cold January eve we had a massive turn out for for our first group run of 2019 to help SUSTRANS with the upkeep of the National Cycle Network (NCN).
This week we split into 2 running groups, the first being led by TRAINER TOM and backed up by SUPER SAM who went on ahead at a 'sweaty pace' to get to the task location a little ahead of the rest of the group to try and get ahead with organizing tools and the task....
This was the plan, however the second group led by SENSATIONAL STEVE and backed up by COURTEOUS KIM were hot on the heels of group one and arrived not long after.
We had a couple of briefs from SUSTRANS SIMON who got us tooled up, told us about the hazards to be aware of and about how to route came to be with the introduction of the ring road into the city. This particular stretch of route is a strategic part of the cities cycle network that links the centre to the Hospital. Unfortunately it is not the best kept area with lots of broken glass, gravel, overgrown plants, litter and at the time lot's of balls...
GGSHEFF to the rescue!!!!!
But not for long...
Everyone got straight to it with tools in hand and got to a number of tasks;
By the time we were done the section of route was looking spic and span and a lot more attractive for people to use safely and puncture free!
We headed back as one big group with a free 'fitness stops' on route which included;
On arrival back at base we stretched off and heard the latest news which included all the other fantastic activities that the @GGSHEFF crew are putting on with something on each day of the week and heard where we are up to on the Jan Challenge.
Loads to get involved with on the website from training session, community missions, runch's as well as the usual missions, coach runs etc so let's get those miles and deeds in, every day counts!
Happy Running :)
