13 GoodGym runners ran 5k to help dig over a wildflower bed

It was a case of happy families on this bright but chilly Saturday morning, with Paul B bringing along sister Deb, Paul and Deb R also present, as were Chris and Kim. With two sets of Paul and Deb plus a couple of Chris's, things could have got a little confusing!

Welcome Deb L, we hope you enjoyed your first GoodGym experience!

After warming up before setting off and learning that Gary's fruit preference is a fig, we headed off on our run to Victoria Park to meet up with our host, Gav.

Gav is part of the Victoria Park Action Group and kindly explained our task of turning over a wildflower bed, pulling out weeds and, in particular, thistles, whilst keeping the existing flowers bedded, so that they could begin to plant some perennials in one of the several beds within the park.

The group got well stuck in with forks, spades and hoes and by the time we had finished some 75 minutes later the wildflower bed had been transformed, again highlighting just what a difference a group effort can make.

Job done, there was time for a quick play in the leaves, before the return journey which took us through a willow tunnel which we had helped to erect on another task.

Great job gang, thanks to Gary for bringing us back to base and to Paul, Kim and both Chris's who all took stints at backmarking.

Thanks also to Kim for throwing a DBS party before the run (we think that should be called a "knees up"!) and to Richard, Chloe and Paul for taking advantage of that!
