Find out about GoodGym TaskForce
Report written by Liv Parker-Scott
What do you get when 13 awesome GoodGym runners team up with A Mile In Her Shoes? Goody Two Shoes of course!
As well as some usual suspects we had an amazing 4 new runners with us last night. Georgia, Ayla, Robbie and Sophie all took the decision to do something pretty special with their evenings and completed their first run and good deed with us! A warm welcome to all of you!
We did a bit of a reversal on our usual order of events and decided to start with our run and fitness session, finishing with the task as it was taking place in the function space of a local pub. I thought it would be a good opportunity to know all the hard work was behind us and perhaps be able to have a drink alongside the job in hand.
As it turned out you were all so keen to get involved that we forgot all about the fact we were in a pub and all just got stuck in! Our job was to sort kit donations for wonderful local charity A Mile In Her Shoes, who work with women affected by homelessness by helping them find their feet through running! They constantly receive lots of running kit donations to give out the women at their sessions and last night it was our job to help them organise this into what is useful to them and what isn't.
Founder of the charity Nicola was there to give us a bit more information about how A Mile In Her Shoes works and how the time we spent with her this evening was going to help the charity. She was on hand all evening to help guide the group through the sorting process and help the some of the bewildered men amongst us learn all about womens running clothes!
When we started we weren't sure whether we'd work our way through all the kit in one sitting but team work most definitely makes the dream work and we were finished in no time at all.
Thank you to everyone for your help, this was just batch 1 of the huge pile of kit so generously donated to Nicola and her amazing charity, so if you loved it you're in luck, next week we do it all again!
A Mile in Her Shoes is a charity that encourages women who are at risk of homelessness or affected by related issues to try running as a way of exercising, socialising, lifting confidence and boosting self-esteem. They work to identify and remove any barriers to running, enabling participants to access the same mental, physical, health and social benefits from running as any other woman.
