It was a little chilly this morning, but 5 hardy goodgymers still chose to spend their Saturday morning lending a hand to the Friends of Furnivall Gardens at their monthly gardening session. Welcome to Zoi and Frieda, who both joined us for their first goodgym task today - it was lovely to have you both!

Jane gave us a couple of tasks to focus on: 1. Weeding in the beds along the river front 2. Mulching the tidied up beds, and continuing to mulch around one of the large older trees

Flavia and Zoi set to work weeding in the flower beds along the river towards the west of the gardens, whilst Frieda began digging up weeds in the middle triangle. Flavia had a particularly tough task as she was digging up one plant which had grown through the railings surrounding the bed she was working on. After a little perseverance, she emerged triumphant with plant in hand - very well done! 👏

Frieda was working solo in the triangular bed in the centre of the garden. There were lots of weeds to be dug out here, and we were all very impressed by the amount which had been cleared by the end of the task - excellent effort! 💪

Beth took on the role of mulch delivery - it turned out that this was the most in-demand role today, as everyone wanted mulch to cover their newly-weeded beds. Too mulch was never enough!! Many barrow loads were delivered, whilst weed & turf piles were also collected and taken care of.

Once the flower beds were finished, Zoi and Flavia began digging a wider circle to mulch around the older tree in the centre of the gardens. With the help of Cookie, who had cycled over from Ravenscourt Park to join us, they made use of a garden waste sack to transfer even more mulch whilst Beth continued collecting weeds / turf in the wheelbarrow. Before long, everything was mulched and all weeds were tidied away, so we posed for a quick picture with our handiwork and headed off to enjoy the rest of the weekend.

Great job today everyone - thanks again for coming along. Hopefully see you again soon at our upcoming tasks. Our next one will be at Fulham Palace on Saturday 19th March (sign up here) and we will be back at Furnivall Gardens next month (keep an eye on the website for the listing).
